A tornado that occurred in the early morning of November 17 blew off the roofs of 25 houses in Nguyen Nghiem commune, Quang Ngai province.
Within minutes, the tornado ripped off the roofs of 25 houses, swept away many properties, and broke trees and electric poles. Fortunately, the incident did not cause any human casualties, but left many households penniless in the middle of a stormy night.
Immediately after receiving the news, Regiment 887 (Quang Ngai Provincial Military Command) immediately mobilized more than 40 officers and soldiers to march to the scene. Under the cold rain in the early morning, the military forces coordinated with the militia of Nguyen Nghiem commune, local police and mass organizations to urgently support people to clean up the scene, re-roof, rebuild houses and transport belongings to a safe place.
Lieutenant Colonel Le Van Canh, Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of Regiment 887, said that the unit received the mission that night and deployed forces as soon as possible. "The officers and soldiers of the Regiment carried out the mission with the motto "Serving the people", focusing on helping people overcome the damage as quickly as possible and stabilize their lives soon."

Regiment 887 (Quang Ngai Provincial Military Command) mobilized more than 40 officers and soldiers to march to the scene to help households re-roof.
Picking up each piece of broken brick, Mrs. Thach Thi Muong (60 years old in Phuoc Loi village), could not hide her emotions: "When the tornado hit, the roof was blown away by the wind. The damage was great but luckily, I was still alive." Immediately after the tornado, the army and militia were present early in the morning, helping Mrs. Muong's family rebuild the roof and arrange the furniture that was still usable. Thanks to the army's help, the family had a temporary shelter.
While the army forces were rebuilding roofs, trimming fallen trees, and reinforcing walls, the militia of Nguyen Nghiem commune was also on duty regularly to support households that suffered heavy damage. Mr. Nguyen Thinh, Secretary of the Nguyen Nghiem Commune Party Committee, said that the commune had mobilized all local forces, prioritizing support for single-parent households, the elderly, and single women. "We set a goal that every household would have a safe temporary shelter within the day," Mr. Nguyen Thinh shared.
By noon of the same day, armed forces and on-site shock troops had helped many households complete temporary roofing, clean up scattered materials, and ensure temporary living conditions while waiting for further support.

Soldiers help people roof their houses after the tornado.
Not only Quang Ngai, on the night of November 16 and early morning of November 17, prolonged heavy rain and tornadoes also caused heavy damage in many communes and wards in Da Nang city.
Particularly in the area of the Defense Command of Region 4 - Ban Thach (Da Nang City), the strong tornado accompanied by heavy rain damaged the houses of 92 households in Huong Tra ward, Tam Xuan commune and Chien Dan commune, of which 5 houses had their roofs completely blown off. In Chien Dan commune, 4 people were injured by falling corrugated iron roofs and materials.
Upon receiving the information, the Party Committee and the Regional Defense Command - Ban Thach immediately directed the mobile force units to each damaged residential area to provide support. Working groups were divided into each commune and ward, re-surveying the extent of damage, helping people clear the rubble, rebuild houses and transport assets to safety. Soldiers, militiamen, and youth union members divided into small groups, persistently supporting each household, especially the poor families, the elderly and children.
Although the number of houses with roofs blown off is large, with the sense of responsibility and dedication of the soldiers, officers and soldiers of the Defense Command of Region 4 - Ban Thach and the local police force have made every effort, determined to work with the locality to support the people to quickly overcome the consequences of natural disasters and stabilize their lives soon.
