From a reformed opera student, she turned to dance and drama and left a strong impression on the small screen with the role of doctor Oanh in "White Blouse".
“Story of the Night with the Stars”, aired at 9:50 pm every Wednesday on THVL1, is where the audience listens to the confidences of celebrities. Recently, Meritorious Artist Tuyet Thu appeared on the show, sharing with MC Minh Ngoc about her artistic journey with many ups and downs.
Participating in “The Night Story with the Stars”, Meritorious Artist Tuyet Thu revealed that she has had a strong passion for Cai Luong since childhood, especially fascinated by the plays of veteran artists such as Thanh Nga and Dieu Hien. That love motivated her to take the entrance exam to the School of Performing Arts to study Cai Luong.
As early as her second year, Tuyet Thu was assigned the lead role in the play “The Neighbor Girl” (directed by Truong Dung), a turning point that helped her step onto the professional stage. Along with studying and performing, she also studied dance, soon showing the studious spirit of a multi-talented girl.
When she was about to graduate, Tuyet Thu almost became a cai luong actress. “At that time, my name was on the recruitment list. A week before leaving the troupe, one rainy night, my mother went back to her hometown and saw another troupe’s car broke down in the middle of the road. The artists had to get wet in the rain in the middle of the night. My mother saw that and did not let me follow, afraid that her daughter would suffer,” she recounted.
After a missed opportunity with Cai Luong, Tuyet Thu was chosen by teacher Thai Ly to participate in the traditional music and dance program. She continued to be associated with Kim Quy's dance group and the Ho Chi Minh City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera.
In 1996, she officially joined the Ho Chi Minh City Drama Group under the guidance of Mr. Tran Ngoc Giau, then moved to work at the 5B stage. This is where she affirmed her name in the drama world. When the Hoang Thai Thanh stage was established, Tuyet Thu continued to accompany and contribute until now.
Looking back on her journey, she expressed: “Some people say my artistic path is too complicated, but I am grateful for that complexity. Thanks to that, I learned many things from reformed opera, dance, drama to cinema.”
Her biggest breakthrough on the small screen was the role of Doctor Oanh in “White Blouse”. The series lasted more than 70 episodes, filmed continuously for a year and created a big buzz when it aired. Since then, Tuyet Thu continued to make her mark with a series of sincere and emotional mother roles.
Her role in the THVL film Stepmother also left a strong impression on her about the mother-child love story with her biological child and her husband's stepchildren. She shared more: "The audience remembers me through many mother roles, but what I like most is the role of Mrs. 11 in the film "Sai Gon River". This is a straightforward rural mother who dares to rebel, completely different from the gentle mother roles before."
Closing the conversation at “Chuyen toi cung sao”, Meritorious Artist Tuyet Thu affirmed that the most important thing for her is responsibility for the role: “I only have one direction, which is to do my job well. Each role is not only a personal success, but also the pride of the whole crew and the audience who love me”.
