Artist Trung Dan: "Comedians must have innate talent"

Episode 10 of “Conquering Passion” continues to challenge young actors with the “difficult” topic - “Night of Smiles”. On the hot seat, the four veteran judges including Meritorious Artist Kim Phuong, People’s Artist Kim Xuan, Artist Trung Dan and Meritorious Artist Duc Thinh gave in-depth analysis of the comedy genre, while the contestants (Anh Thu, Kim Hoang, Huu Thang) struggled to find laughter.

Faced with a difficult topic, Meritorious Artist Duc Thinh believes that the key to comedy is “innate thinking”. The male judge advised young actors to exploit hot social issues such as “technology fraud, delivery stories” to bring life to life, instead of remaking old stories that “easily bore the audience”.

When MC Nguyen Anh Tu asked the difficult question: "What should I do if I perform comedy but the audience doesn't laugh?", artist Trung Dan shared a valuable opinion. He affirmed: "First of all, you must have a talent for comedy, not everyone can perform comedy."

The veteran male artist analyzed: “If you want to do comedy, you have to see how far your charm goes and then do it. If the audience doesn’t laugh when you do comedy, those with a lot of stage experience will have a way to make up for it all. Comedians always have to improvise and adapt.”

The judges' professional sharing became even more valuable when the contestants of episode 10 mostly put "tragic" into comedy.

Contestant Kim Hoang (in the performance “Fortune Telling”) plays the role of a fortune teller. Despite her comedic chops, People’s Artist Kim Xuan and Meritorious Artist Kim Phuong both commented that the role was interesting but “needed more emphasis” to bring out the qualities of a fortune teller.

Meanwhile, Huu Thang with “Kindness Story” plays the role of an uncle who saves a suicidal person. Artist Trung Dan expressed his love for the script, but also regretted: “Only the element of kindness between people... can be exploited to create laughter in a very good way”, but the contestant “could not exploit it thoroughly” but instead leaned towards teaching.

Regarding Anh Thu’s performance “Friendship”, the script revolving around the helpless children selling lottery tickets and taking care of each other under the bridge touched the judges’ hearts. People’s Artist Kim Xuan was “moved”, thanking her for the careful investment and meaningful message. However, artist Kim Xuan also had to frankly give her opinion, saying that the contestant should choose a story with a lighter content to suit the competition night with the “comedy” element.
