Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha: Resolutely not allowing fishing boats that do not meet the conditions to go to sea

On November 18, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha chaired the 22nd meeting of the National Steering Committee on Combating Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing. The meeting was held in person at the Government Headquarters and connected online with 21 coastal provinces and cities.

At the conference, leaders of ministries, branches and localities reported on the progress of the implementation of the work to combat IUU fishing according to the conclusion of the Prime Minister at the 21st Session. Accordingly, as of November 15, 2025, ministries, branches and localities have completed 54/99 assigned tasks, 41 tasks are being implemented, and 4 tasks are behind schedule.

Up to now, the total number of fishing vessels of localities registered and updated on Vnfishbase is 79,360/79,360 fishing vessels (reaching 100%); 76,811/79,360 fishing vessels have been licensed and updated on the national database Vnfishbase.

The number of fishing vessels that do not meet the operating conditions has been controlled by localities, assigned to communes/wards, forces, and management officers with the anchorage locations of fishing vessels. During the week, 2,480 fishing vessels leaving the port and 3,138 vessels arriving at the port were inspected and controlled according to regulations and the output of aquatic products exploited through the port was 11,522 tons on the eCDT System. During the week, 62 fishing vessels lost connection to VMS and exceeded the permitted fishing boundary at sea.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha requested ministries, branches and 21 coastal localities to resolutely implement and closely follow the progress of each task; focus on resolutely handling violations, not allowing illegal fishing vessels to operate in foreign waters, and no longer having VMS disconnection for more than 6 hours, disconnection for more than 10 days without reporting or exceeding the fishing boundary.

Resolutely not allowing fishing vessels to go to sea and confiscate documents of fishing vessels that do not meet the requirements; request to promote the conversion of prohibited fishing occupations to other suitable occupations, encourage the development of aquaculture, especially high-tech shrimp farming, to ensure jobs, income and livelihoods for fishermen.
