Promoting the colors of highland heritage

2025 marks the first time that the "Da Nang Cultural Heritage Festival" program is held simultaneously at 3 locations of the Da Nang Museum with many diverse and attractive activities for residents and tourists. In particular, at the Da Nang Museum (No. 31 Tran Phu, Hai Chau Ward), 3 exhibitions will take place including: "Colors of Da Nang Highlands Culture", exhibition of traditional costumes of ethnic minorities with the theme "Sac Soi" and exhibition of Co Tu wooden sculptures with the theme "Soul of Wood".

In addition to promoting the image and admiring statues and reliefs about the cultural life of Da Nang's ethnic minorities including Co Tu, Xo Dang, Gie Trieng, Cor, Bhnong, the public has the opportunity to learn and explore the process and methods of making costumes of 5 ethnic minorities in the mountainous area of Da Nang.

At the Da Nang Museum space at 42 Bach Dang, Hai Chau ward, there will be performances of traditional folk songs and dances of ethnic minorities; kitchen space of Co Tu and Ca Dong ethnic groups; space to introduce traditional handicrafts and agricultural products of Co Tu and Ca Dong people.

Meanwhile, Da Nang Museum, Campus 2 (Ban Thach Ward) organized for students to visit the exhibition space introducing the cultural life of the Cor people and participate in experiential activities: painting and decorating the Neu tree and the Gu set of the Cor people - a national intangible cultural heritage.

Notably, this year’s program will include the event “Cultural Experience “Co Tu-Gether: Walking Together in the Village”. According to the Da Nang Museum, the event aims to introduce and promote the culture of the Co Tu ethnic group in Da Nang to a younger audience.

The event combines multi-platform communication and direct experiential activities, creating conditions for young people to access culture through both digital and physical environments. The three main activities of the event are displaying highland products; experiencing and interacting with local customs and cuisine ; and chatting with Co Tu artisans.

According to Mr. Huynh Dinh Quoc Thien, Director of Da Nang Museum, the program is organized with this theme with the desire to introduce, promote and honor the unique cultural values of ethnic minorities living in the city; at the same time, demonstrate the connection and convergence of ethnic groups in the heart of the city.

Contribute to stimulating mountain tourism

In the process of working, living, and dealing with nature, the people of the western region of Da Nang have accumulated a lot of life experiences and created their own unique cultural identities. These traditional values not only enrich the city’s cultural treasure but are also valuable materials for developing tourism products associated with local cultural experiences.

In the upcoming program on Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day, many items such as brocade, bamboo and rattan woven products, and quality packaged agricultural products grown and harvested by ethnic minorities will have more opportunities to access the market.

At the same time, visitors will also have access to and experience many processes of making traditional handicraft products such as brocade weaving, knitting, making buffalo croissant, Phu Tuc wine, beading, making bracelets, etc. Through these activities, visitors will have more opportunities to approach and have a new perspective on the unique culture of the Da Nang highlands, which can then lead trips to explore this land more deeply in the future.

Ms. Tran Thi Thu Oanh, representative of the International Development and Relief Organization (FIDR), said: "When tourists directly experience the process of making traditional handicraft products of ethnic minorities, such as brocade weaving, they will understand the sophistication and production knowledge of each product and will sympathize with the price of these products, which they previously thought was quite high."

Not only limited to the Da Nang Museum, many organizations, units and businesses in the city have also regularly integrated the promotion of highland cultural values into events and festivals. Thereby, contributing significantly to stimulating tourism and spreading the beauty of Da Nang's mountainous region.

Mr. Le Quoc Viet, Chairman of the Quang Nam Destination Club to Preserve Indigenous Values (Da Nang City Tourism Association) said that many community villages in the western part of the city are really attractive because they still retain their unique cultural features. The joint efforts of all parties to promote and build a foundation for tourism development in this land not only help Da Nang expand its tourism development space but also be a sustainable direction to improve the livelihoods of the local people.
