Gia Lai: Prolonged heavy rain, many coastal urban areas are deeply flooded

From the night of November 17 to the morning of November 18, heavy rain combined with rising floods caused many low-lying areas in the East of Gia Lai province to be deeply flooded, especially in the coastal urban areas of Quy Nhon. Local authorities are urgently mobilizing forces to evacuate people and respond to bad situations.

According to SGGP Newspaper's reporter, many residential areas in communes and wards such as Tuy Phuoc, Quy Nhon Dong, Quy Nhon Bac... were heavily flooded, in some places the water rose from 0.5 to more than 1.5m, completely cutting off many roads and residential areas.

Houses are being "surrounded" by floodwaters in Quy Nhon Dong ward.

Many residential areas downstream of Ha Thanh River in Tuy Phuoc Commune are still deeply submerged in "water".

In Tuy Phuoc commune , floodwaters from the Ha Thanh River rose rapidly overnight, leaving residents unable to react and many properties were swept away. Mr. Tran Thanh The (60 years old) said the water flooded his house at 1am, rose for 6 hours and receded very slowly.

Mr. Tran Minh Quang, Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, said that the authorities have banned people and vehicles from passing through areas with rapid water flows and have organized 24/7 staff to guide and support people.

Many flooded residential areas are still inaccessible in Tuy Phuoc commune.

In Quy Nhon Dong ward , areas 6, 7, 8, 9 were deeply flooded, many households had to evacuate.

Mr. Tran Viet Quang, Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, said that the authorities have set up checkpoints, put up warning ropes at dangerous locations, organized the relocation of property and assisted people to safety. Rescue vehicles such as canoes and inflatable boats have been prepared.

Many houses in Quy Nhon Dong ward were deeply flooded.

The Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee previously issued an urgent telegram, requesting localities to proactively deploy flood response plans, absolutely not being subjective, to ensure the safety of people's lives and property.
