Heavy rain causes local flooding in Quy Nhon Dong ward

On November 18, Chairman of Quy Nhon Dong Ward People's Committee Tran Viet Quang said that continuous heavy rains in recent days have caused some residential areas in the ward to be locally flooded, affecting people's lives.

Specifically, on the morning of November 18, local flooding occurred in many houses in areas 6, 7, 8 and 9. In addition, flooding also occurred in areas 2 and 3 on internal traffic routes. Through monitoring, the areas were flooded from 0.5 - 1m, causing difficulties for local residents.

Mr. Tran Viet Quang said that since early this morning, the ward has assigned comrades to take charge of the area, coordinate with the traffic police force and militia to block and string up flooded traffic routes, minimizing damage to people and property in the area. The working group also went directly to the people to propagate and mobilize them to move their property and people to a safe place. The ward also prepared canoes, small motorboats, and inflatable boats to infiltrate flooded residential areas, ready to rescue and bring people to a safer place.

According to the reporter's records, on some main roads such as Dien Bien Phu, Dao Tan, heavy rain has caused flooding from 0.3 - 1.5m. Particularly, on the roads through spillways and crossroads at some points of Quy Nhon and Quy Nhon Dong wards, they have also been deeply submerged in water. Currently, the traffic police force has blocked and prohibited people and vehicles from passing through these areas.

According to information from the Gia Lai Province Hydrometeorological Station, from early morning of November 17 to early morning of November 18, the eastern region of Gia Lai province had moderate to heavy rain, some places had very heavy rain. The total rainfall from 2am on November 17 to 2am on November 18 in the eastern region was generally from 40 - 100mm, some places were over 110mm such as Van Canh: 265.9mm, Canh Lien: 233.9, An Quang: 168mm, Krong: 119.6mm, Phuoc Thanh: 112.3mm; the western region was generally from 10 - 30mm, some places were over 40mm.

In the next 24 to 48 hours, the province will continue to experience heavy rain. Specifically, from November 18 to the morning of November 20, the eastern region of Gia Lai province will have moderate to heavy rain, some places will have very heavy rain and thunderstorms with rainfall ranging from 100 - 250mm, some places over 300mm; some places in the old eastern region of Gia Lai will have rain, moderate rain, some places will have heavy rain and thunderstorms with rainfall ranging from 30 - 50mm, some places over 70mm.
