Quang Ngai requested to lower the water level of reservoirs to welcome floods.

The order to lower the water level of reservoirs signed by Vice Chairman of Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee Do Tam Hien, Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Civil Defense Command, requires Quang Ngai Province Irrigation Works Exploitation One Member Co., Ltd. and Dakdrinh Hydropower Joint Stock Company to operate with a total discharge flow smaller than the flow to the reservoir to reduce flooding downstream and ensure that the reservoir water level does not exceed the normal water level as prescribed in Point a, Clause 3, Article 9 of the Procedure.

At the same time, it is required that when the reservoir water level reaches the normal water level, the reservoir must be operated with a discharge flow equivalent to the flow to the reservoir, and the operation mode must be ready to switch to ensure the safety of the project according to the provisions of Article 11 of the Procedure. Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province Do Tam Hien also requested Quang Ngai Irrigation Works Exploitation Company Limited and Dakdrinh Hydropower Joint Stock Company to regularly monitor and closely monitor the development of rain, floods and flood warnings on the Tra Khuc River, operate and regulate according to the approved process, and need to develop a reservoir operation and regulation plan, specifically (time, discharge flow, ...) and coordinate and exchange information during the operation to adjust the operation mode accordingly, ensuring effective participation in flood reduction operations for downstream areas and safety for the project.

Fully notify the authorities and people of the relevant downstream localities (Son Tay, Son Tay Ha, Son Ha, Son Thuy, Son Linh, Son Ha, Truong Giang, Ba Gia, Son Tinh, Tho Phong, An Phu, Tinh Khe Dong Son, Nghia Giang, Tra Giang, Nghia Lo, Cam Thanh, Truong Quang Trong) to ensure safety during the entire operation period to reduce flooding for the downstream; regularly report to the Head of the Civil Defense Command of Quang Ngai province and relevant agencies and units to promptly make decisions on operating the reservoirs in accordance with the development of rain and floods.

According to the Quang Ngai Province Hydrometeorological Station, due to the strengthening of cold air combined with high-altitude easterly winds, from the evening of November 17 to the afternoon of November 19, the mountainous communes in the East of Truong Son in Quang Ngai province will have heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorms in some places; rainfall is likely to reach 200 - 300mm, in some places over 400mm. The communes and wards in the plains and special zones in the East of Truong Son in Quang Ngai province will have heavy rain, in some places very heavy rain and thunderstorms; rainfall is likely to reach 100 - 200mm, in some places over 250mm. From November 18, the sea in Quang Ngai will have strong winds of level 6 - 7, gusting to level 8 - 9, very rough seas, waves from 3 - 6m high.

Heavy rain on November 16 and 17 caused the floodwaters on Tra Khuc River to reach 5.55m at noon on November 17, 0.55m higher than the alarm level 2; landslides continued to occur in some mountainous communes of Quang Ngai, causing traffic disruption. In Son Tay Ha commune, heavy rain caused a landslide on Ra Vat pass, cutting off the traffic route from Ta Vinh village (former Son Mau commune) and Ra Tan village (former Son Tinh commune) to the center of Son Tay Ha commune. The authorities of Son Tay Ha commune have advised people to temporarily not travel through the area until further notice.
