On July 19, Dr. Nguyen Tien Thanh, a member of the Vietnam Dermatology Association, said the patient came to the clinic in an uncomfortable state, with his entire face red and burned.
The woman said that her skin used to have acne, large pores and many uneven skin tones. After researching online, the seller introduced her to a natural peeling cream that peels like a snake, making her skin smooth. Peeling, also known as chemical peeling, is done by applying chemicals that penetrate the structural layers of the skin, thereby removing the old cell layer, promoting the rapid exposure of the younger, healthier and more beautiful skin layers underneath.
The patient spent nearly three million VND on a home peeling treatment. However, a day later, her face appeared red and painful lesions. The sales person advised, "The more peeling this method does, the better, the faster the skin will be beautiful."
After two weeks, the burning pain spread all over the face, causing discomfort, pus and peeling in many places, so the patient went to see a dermatologist.
Dr. Thanh diagnosed the patient with dermatitis, irritation, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation complications, and a risk of long-term darkening and scarring due to deep peeling with strong exfoliating chemicals. The doctor said the recovery treatment time would be long, requiring the use of many expensive technologies and methods, but it would also be difficult to recover as before.
Skin peeling is a beauty method applied by many women, if performed under the supervision of a doctor, it will bring good results. However, buying products of unknown origin to peel your skin yourself or performing the procedure at spas, facilities that are not guaranteed, can cause complications such as burns, inflammation, hyperpigmentation, thin skin, sometimes leaving ugly scars, permanent dark spots.
Dr. Thanh recommends that women need to have a skin care regimen and choose the right beauty method, not using active ingredients of unknown origin or mixed creams. Each skin type will have appropriate products and indications. In case of wanting to perform beauty techniques, people need to go to medical facilities with dermatologists for guidance and advice, to avoid wasting money and getting sick.
