Last week, Huawei officially unveiled the Mate 70 at an event in Shenzhen, China. Richard Yu, President of Huawei's consumer business group, called them "the most powerful Mate phones in history," but didn't mention any details about the internal processor.
According to TechInsights , Huawei's new product line, including the Mate 70, Mate 70 Pro, Mate 70 Pro+, and Mate 70 RS, is equipped with the Kirin 9010 and 9020 processors designed by HiSilicon. The tech site notes that the chip "has lower performance" compared to competitors such as Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8+ and MediaTek's Dimensity 9200. This significantly impacts the Mate 70's competitiveness in the high-end segment.

Furthermore, running Huawei's own HarmonyOS Next operating system is also a weakness of the Mate 70. According to Reuters, the company's new smartphone will not run any Android applications and will not have any hardware from the US, after half a decade of sanctions.
The Chinese domestic operating system currently has over 15,000 applications. Huawei plans to expand its app store to 100,000 apps in the coming months. It is expected that from 2025, all of the company's phones and tablets will run HarmonyOS Next.
TechInsights suggests that limiting users to within Huawei's ecosystem could diminish the product's appeal outside of China. To date, there is no information on whether the Mate 70 will be sold internationally.
TechInsights predicts Mate 70 sales will reach 3 million units in Q4, accounting for approximately 22% of all smartphones Huawei sells during this period.
According to Canalys' report on the Chinese smartphone market share in Q3 2024, Huawei is the second-largest smartphone supplier, with shipments exceeding 10 million smartphones for four consecutive quarters. Market research firm Counterpoint predicts that the Mate 70 will quickly surpass 10 million units sold.
According to SCMP , despite Huawei's new strategies for the high-end market, global mobile growth remains uncertain due to geopolitical tensions and semiconductor supply constraints.
