Concerned about people's health.

In mid-2023, hundreds of people, especially elderly people in difficult circumstances in Phong Dien district, gathered in Phong Son commune to receive free medical examinations and medication.

Ms. Nguyen Thi No (70 years old, Phong Son commune) emotionally shared: “Hearing that a medical team had come to the area, I immediately asked my grandchild to take me here to receive support for a stomach ailment examination. The young doctors here were all kind in diagnosing my illness and enthusiastically dispensing and instructing me on how to use the medicine.”

This medical examination and treatment activity is part of the "Young Doctors Following Uncle Ho's Teachings, Volunteering for Community Health" campaign in 2023, organized by the Vietnam Youth Union of the province in coordination with the Youth Union of Hue Central Hospital, Branch 2.

With a team of 30 doctors and medical professionals from various specialties, including general internal medicine, general surgery, dentistry, otolaryngology, dermatology, and ophthalmology, over 500 people received examinations and diagnoses using modern techniques such as ultrasound, electrocardiogram, and capillary blood glucose testing. For cases with serious illnesses, the doctors advised and guided patients to higher-level facilities. After the examinations, residents also received free prescriptions and medication, as well as advice on nutrition, disease prevention, and first aid for injuries in adults and children.

Dr. Tran Nhu Minh Tri, from Hue Central Hospital, Branch 2, shared that as a youth union member, he feels honored to participate in community health care activities. He observed that access to healthcare for people in remote areas is still limited, so programs like the "Young Doctors Following Uncle Ho's Teachings" journey will help people have the opportunity to receive medical check-ups and early detection and treatment of diseases.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hoai, Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union and President of the Vietnam Youth Union in the province, said that in addition to providing free medical examinations and treatment, the organization has also actively mobilized a large number of young people to participate in many volunteer programs for the community, such as: "Winter Volunteer Program"; the campaign "Studying and following the moral example of Ho Chi Minh", Youth Month, and the Summer Youth Volunteer Campaign...

Notably, at the beginning of 2024, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union, in coordination with the Provincial Youth Union, organized the 2024 Winter Volunteer Program and Spring Volunteer Program at the central level, and launched a high-intensity emulation campaign to celebrate the Congresses of the Vietnam Youth Union at all levels, leading up to the 9th National Congress of the Vietnam Youth Union, term 2024-2029. The program implemented many meaningful and practical activities aimed at the community with a total value of nearly 1 billion VND.

Many meaningful programs

During the 2019-2024 term, the Vietnam Youth Union of Thua Thien Hue province, in coordination with the Provincial Youth Union, effectively implemented the Project "Youth of Thua Thien Hue joining hands to build new rural areas and civilized urban lifestyles, 2018-2022"; the National Target Program for socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas... Youth Union branches at all levels organized more than 2,125 activities to build rural infrastructure, implementing 17,502 specific projects and tasks with practical significance, with a total budget of over 21.5 billion VND.

Volunteer activities for social welfare have been expanded in scale, geographical scope, and target groups by all levels of the Youth Union; many activities have been organized simultaneously, with a wide-ranging impact and a distinct character of the Union. Notably, local branches have implemented effective activities closely linked to the implementation of Resolution No. 11 of the Provincial Party Committee on sustainable poverty reduction for the period 2021-2025; and Plan No. 410 of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Youth Union on the implementation of Resolution No. 11 of the Provincial Party Committee on sustainable poverty reduction for the period 2021-2025.

As a result, during the term, more than 1,800 youth projects and activities were implemented, notably: building 99 charitable houses; organizing 145 free medical examination and medicine distribution sessions for 72,000 people; illuminating more than 35.7km of rural roads, dredging more than 150km of irrigation canals..., with a total cost of nearly 35.1 billion VND.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Vietnam Youth Union of Thua Thien Hue province implemented many practical programs and activities, such as: establishing 143 volunteer teams to combat the pandemic, with more than 25,000 young people participating; organizing the OXYGEN ATM program; donating masks, hand sanitizer, and essential goods worth more than 9.5 billion VND. The voluntary blood donation movement and the "Green Sunday" project - "Act to make Thua Thien Hue greener, cleaner, and brighter" - were also actively and regularly participated in by the province's youth.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hoai stated that for the 2024-2029 term, with the slogan "Thua Thien Hue Youth: Aspiration - Unity - Creativity - Development," the Vietnam Youth Union of Thua Thien Hue province has set 12 key targets. Among these, focusing on community service continues to be the guiding principle for Thua Thien Hue youth to continue contributing their youthful energy. The Vietnam Youth Union of Thua Thien Hue province will continue to focus on organizing and implementing youth projects and activities for community life in a professional and effective manner. Simultaneously, it will develop volunteer teams operating in remote areas, mountainous regions, and areas inhabited by ethnic minorities; and strengthen the mobilization of social resources to support people and children in difficult circumstances.
