According to Kiyv Independent, the Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) confirmed that it will disburse 880 million USD to Ukraine. This is the third disbursement of the aid package with a total value of 15,6 billion USD.
In a statement, IMF General Director Kristalina Georgieva confirmed the above decision and said the conflict with Russia has posed many socio-economic challenges for Ukraine. She commented that Ukraine still maintains financial and macroeconomic stability, thanks to the policies of the Ukrainian government along with significant support from outside.
Ukraine's economy demonstrated strong growth, falling inflation and rising reserves in 2023, but the outlook for 2024 remains uncertain. According to recent IMF estimates, Ukraine needs at least $490 billion to rebuild after the conflict. The country's growth rate is expected to decrease to 3-4% in 2024.
The Ukrainian Government expects IMF support to amount to 5,4 billion USD. Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said that with this money, Ukraine will be able to focus resources on defense, which is the country's number one priority.
