Interplast: Free maxillofacial surgery for 80 underprivileged children.

From April 8th to April 18th, 2024, a free surgical program for children with cleft lip and palate deformities nationwide will take place in Thua Thien Hue province. The program is a collaboration between the Interplast volunteer surgical team (Interplast Organization, Federal Republic of Germany) and Hue Central Hospital.

Over the course of the 10-day program, the Interplast volunteer surgical team is expected to perform surgeries on approximately 80 unfortunate children with congenital craniofacial deformities. This is a humanitarian activity that contributes to bringing smiles and confidence to underprivileged children who do not have the means to undergo surgery.

Dr. Nguyen Hong Loi, Director of the Maxillofacial Center at Hue Central Hospital, said that in addition to free surgeries, the experts also organized scientific exchanges, updated on maxillofacial reconstructive surgery, and participated in training young surgeons at the Center. Both sides also discussed and planned the implementation of advanced techniques in orthopedic bone correction and bone grafting for children with deformities in the coming years.

The Interplast organization (Federal Republic of Germany) and Hue Central Hospital have maintained a cooperative relationship in the field of cosmetic and reconstructive surgery since 2016. Every year, professors and leading experts from major German hospitals and universities belonging to this organization come to Vietnam to provide free medical examinations and surgeries for poor patients with difficult circumstances and congenital craniofacial deformities.
