The "Godmother" program, implemented by the Provincial Women's Union, quietly continues its journey through villages and hamlets. Without fanfare or ostentation, it is a journey of enduring sharing, of compassionate arms extended to orphaned children and children in difficult circumstances. From these compassionate arms, faith and hope are kindled, helping these children become more resilient in life.

In 2025, a sudden tragedy struck the family of Ms. Hoang Thi An in Hoang Ca village, An Thi commune. Her husband tragically drowned, leaving her alone to care for her elderly mother and two young children, aged 8 and 5. Losing the family's breadwinner made Ms. An's already difficult life even harder when her eldest son developed ADHD, hindering his studies, and her income depended solely on her meager factory worker's salary. The pressure of making ends meet, the worry about food and clothing, and the emotional burden often left the young mother feeling overwhelmed. Understanding Ms. An's plight, the Women's Union of An Thi commune promptly connected her with a "Godmother" program, providing her two children with 6 million VND per year. While not a large sum, this support was invaluable to her family. Ms. An shared: "With the support from the 'Godmother' program, my burden has been somewhat eased. My children can continue to go to school and have better learning opportunities, which gives me more confidence to overcome difficulties."
As one of the children receiving support from the "Godmother" program, Hoang Thi Hai Linh, a student at Pham Huy Thong Secondary School (An Thi commune), shared: "My father unfortunately passed away early, and my family has five sisters, so our circumstances are very difficult. Thanks to the 'Godmother' program, I have more resources to buy books and school supplies, cover my study expenses, and continue to nurture my dream of going to school like my peers. I feel very warm and have more motivation to try harder in my studies."
Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhien, Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of An Thi commune and Chairwoman of the Women's Union of An Thi commune, said: To date, the entire commune has 48 orphaned children and children with particularly difficult circumstances who receive support with an amount of 500,000 VND/child per month. In addition to providing financial support, the regular care, visits, and encouragement from Women's Union officials and philanthropists, individuals, and businesses participating in the "Godmother" program have helped the children feel the warmth of love, easing some of the immense loss they have suffered.
Along with many other situations, Ms. Nguyen Thi Nga and her daughter, from Bai village, Dien Ha commune, have always felt the loving and responsible support from Viettel Hung Yen, the sponsoring unit for Ms. Nga's daughter, Vu Thi Hai Bien, a student at Dong Hung Ha High School. In their small, warm home, the gifts handed out directly created a warm and close atmosphere, like that of family members. Ms. Nga said: "Besides giving gifts and visiting, the unit also created a Zalo group to regularly monitor my daughter's studies and my health, providing timely encouragement and support when the family faces difficulties. Therefore, for my daughter and me, the 'Sponsor' program is not just simple assistance, but has become a strong and loving source of emotional support."
Ms. Dinh Thi Bich Ngoc, Political Assistant at Viettel Hung Yen, stated: Currently, Viettel Hung Yen sponsors seven disadvantaged children in Nguyen Trai, Le Quy Don, and Dien Ha communes with an annual allowance of 6 million VND per child. This continues the spirit of humanity and social responsibility, affirming the role of the enterprise in partnering with the local authorities to care for disadvantaged children in the area, thereby making a positive contribution to social welfare.
Launched in 2021, the "Godmother" program has become a strong link connecting the Women's Union, businesses, and the community with a shared goal of the comprehensive development of children. From 2021 to 2025, Women's Union branches at all levels in the province have connected with and sponsored over 2,000 orphaned children in difficult circumstances, providing support ranging from 500,000 VND to 1 million VND per month per child. According to Ms. Vu Hong Luyen, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province and President of the Provincial Women's Union: The support is maintained regularly and long-term, creating conditions for the children to study and live with peace of mind. Building on the program's effectiveness, the Provincial Women's Union will continue to identify the "Godmother" program as a key, long-term activity, linked to the task of caring for and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of women and children. The association will strengthen its propaganda efforts, replicate successful models and effective practices, and call for the collective efforts of the entire society so that more orphaned children and children in difficult circumstances can receive care and support.
