The most advanced iPhone 15 can 'crush the competition' with new camera

It took Apple 7 years to increase the number of megapixels of the main sensor on the iPhone. Therefore, many experts believe that Apple will not change the iPhone camera in the near future.

However, according to the latest rumors, Apple will have a distinct upgrade on the iPhone 15 Ultra, with a much better main camera than the 48MP lens of the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

According to PhoneArena , reliable source Ice Universe revealed that the iPhone 15 Pro Max or iPhone 15 Ultra will use a new Sony sensor for the main camera. The iPhone 14 Pro Max is equipped with a 48MP Sony IMX803 sensor while the iPhone 15 Ultra will have a Sony IMX903 sensor.

One of the key differences between the two sensors is that the iPhone 14 Pro Max camera is 1/1.28 inches in size, while the IMX903 is a 1/1.14-inch sensor.

In theory, larger sensors should be better than smaller sensors because they are capable of capturing more light and detail.

While a 1/1.14-inch sensor isn't exactly the same as a 1-inch sensor, according to Ice Universe, it should be about equally good.

According to leaked specifications last November, the IMX903 sensor will have twice the color saturation signal level, helping to reduce noise and improve dynamic range.

There have been a number of Android phones with 1-inch sensors in recent times, and that’s a big challenge for flagship smartphone cameras that rely on high megapixel counts and photography algorithms. A larger main sensor could help Apple overtake its rivals.

According to Macrumors , the iPhone 15 Ultra is also likely to be equipped with a new periscope lens with optical zoom capabilities of up to 6x. Meanwhile, the iPhone 15 Pro will likely still stick with the 3x telephoto camera like the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
