The iPhone 17 has 12 GB of RAM.

According to a reliable source, the iPhone 17 may be equipped with 12GB of RAM, the same as the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

Apple has never really prioritized the RAM capacity of iPhones. This specification wasn't even mentioned at launch events, nor is it prominently featured in the iPhone feature list on the company's website.

The Cupertino giant has never attempted to match the RAM capacity of Android flagships, especially Samsung's high-end lineup. However, this could eventually change, with the iPhone 17's RAM capacity expected to match that of the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

Analyst Ming-chi Kuo predicts Apple is working to equip the entire iPhone 17 lineup with 12GB of RAM. In the previous generation, even the high-end Pro Max model had a maximum of 8GB of RAM.

Specifically, Kuo suggests that Apple wants to ship all iPhone 17 models with 12GB of RAM, including the slim and lightweight iPhone 17 Air, to compete with Samsung's Galaxy S25 Edge. However, the plan may face supply chain issues, forcing them to use 8GB of RAM for the basic iPhone 17. Apple is finalizing its assessment and will make a final decision in May.

Even if the iPhone 17 retains the same RAM capacity as its predecessor, all iPhone 18 models will have 12GB of RAM next year.

Additionally, Kuo estimates that the average selling price of 12GB of RAM is up to 50% higher than that of 8GB of RAM, creating a significant opportunity for Apple's suppliers, including Micron and SK Hynix.

Previously, to defend its stance against increasing RAM on iPhones, Apple always argued that the combination of hardware and software was more efficient, eliminating the need to utilize all of the RAM. However, when expanding the capabilities of Apple Intelligence, the company was forced to increase RAM to ensure consistent user experience across devices and to guarantee sufficient memory for AI features.

An iPhone 17 with 12GB of RAM would be on par with the Galaxy S25 Ultra. All versions of the Galaxy S25 Ultra have 12GB of RAM, and in some markets even up to 16GB, a figure Apple may not consider for the next few years.
