Previous leaks revealed that the standard iPhone 18 model would be upgraded to 12GB of RAM to better handle AI features in the Apple Intelligence suite.

However, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently stated that both the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e versions will only be equipped with 9GB of RAM.
Notably, devices need at least 12GB of RAM to run the most powerful AI models on iOS 27. This means the iPhone 18 will not support some features in Apple Intelligence and the next-generation Siri AI virtual assistant.
Sources from the supply chain reveal that Apple is planning to downgrade some components on the iPhone 18, including the display and processor. This move aims to maintain a price similar to its predecessor.
Accordingly, the iPhone 18 will have some hardware components cut back, making the product more similar to the cheaper iPhone 18e version. The first cutback is in display quality.
Last year, the iPhone 17 featured a 6.3-inch display with ProMotion technology and a maximum outdoor brightness of up to 3,000 nits. ProMotion is one of the new upgrades integrated into the standard iPhone line. Therefore, it is likely that the screen brightness specifications may be reduced.
In addition, reducing the number of processing cores inside the chip is also a solution to help the company lower the product's cost. Previously, both the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17e used the A19 chip. However, the version on the iPhone 17 has 5 GPU cores, instead of the 4-core version of the iPhone 17e.

Last week, Apple adjusted prices upwards across a range of its products, including MacBooks, iPads, Apple TV, HomePod, and Vision Pro. The increase ranged from 15-30% depending on the model. The company stated that the price hike was due to rising component costs.
"We've never seen component prices rise so much and so quickly. We've tried to protect our customers from these price increases. However, the time has come when we need to start raising prices on some products, including iPads and Macs. We know this isn't good news, and we're working to find a solution," Apple said.
iPhone devices were not affected by the recent price adjustment. However, component shortages are still occurring and becoming increasingly difficult to control. This has led many users to worry about the possibility of Apple raising iPhone prices in the near future.
