According to the latest report from MacRumors , based on leaks from the expert "Instant Digital," the first-generation foldable iPhone, expected to launch in 2026, will have many major changes in both appearance and hardware structure.

The most surprising point in this report is Apple's decision to change the position of the traditional buttons. Instead of being placed on the left edge like current iPhone models, the volume buttons will be moved to the top edge of the device, slightly to the right. This arrangement is quite similar to the iPad mini, optimizing internal space for the complex hinge system and display panel.

The right side of the device will house other important function keys, including the power button with integrated Touch ID sensor and the latest Camera Control button. Meanwhile, the left side of the device is completely smooth.

The foldable iPhone is rumored to have a main screen inside measuring up to 7.8 inches – equivalent to a small tablet, but still ensuring a seamless design without visible creases. On the outside is a secondary 5.5-inch screen.

In terms of camera capabilities, Apple is expected to adopt the design language from the upcoming "iPhone Air" line. The rear camera module includes two lenses arranged horizontally on a prominent black camera block, creating a contrast with the body (currently only the White version has been leaked). On the front, the Dynamic Island will be significantly reduced thanks to punch-hole camera technology, similar to Android devices.

One detail that might excite many users is Apple's take full advantage of the foldable design to equip an iPhone with the largest battery capacity ever. By rearranging the motherboard to one side and optimizing the components, the company was able to dedicate most of the remaining space to the battery, allowing the device to adequately meet the demands of its 7.8-inch screen and powerful A20 chip.

Instant Digital is well-known for its highly accurate rumors about Apple. Their list of correct "predictions" is quite long, including the iPhone 14 getting a gold color option in 2023, the standard iPhone 15 switching to a frosted glass finish, and the iPad's selfie camera being moved to a horizontal edge.

This rumor expert also impressed by correctly revealing details about the iPad Pro M4's nano-coated display, the battery capacity of the iPhone 16 Pro series, and the fact that the Apple Watch Series 10 will still use the same straps as previous generations.

Although Apple is keeping all official information under wraps, supply chain sources indicate that this foldable iPhone will be the "star" of 2026, launching at the same time as the iPhone 18 Pro series. This is seen as Apple's strong response to its Android rivals in the increasingly fierce foldable device race.
