At WWDC 2023, Apple introduced iOS 17, bringing many new features to the iPhone operating system. These include customizable lock screens, improvements to iMessage and FaceTime, new features for the Health app, and a new Standby mode.
However, not all iPhones are compatible with iOS 17. Because it only runs on the A12 Bionic chip and above, the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X will not receive the update.
The list of iPhones that can be upgraded to iOS 17 includes: iPhone XS and XS Max, iPhone XR, iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation), iPhone 14 and 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
The first beta version of iOS 17 will be sent to developers in Apple's Developer Program starting today, while the public beta will be released in July.
Alongside iOS 17, Apple also launched iPadOS 17, watchOS 10, and macOS Sonama. iPadOS 17 is compatible with iPad Pro 2nd generation and later, iPad Air 3rd generation and later, iPad 6th generation and later, and iPad mini 5th generation and later. WatchOS 10 requires users to have an iPhone XS, XR, or later, running iOS 17, and is compatible with: Apple Watch Series 4, Apple Watch Series 5, Apple Watch SE, Apple Watch Series 6, Apple Watch Series 7, Apple Watch Series 8, and Apple Watch Ultra.
Finally, macOS Sonoma dropped support for the 2017 MacBook Pro, 2017 MacBook Air, and 2017 12-inch MacBook. Compatible Macs include: 2018 and later MacBook Pro, 2018 and later MacBook Air, 2018 and later Mac mini, 2019 and later iMac, 2017 iMac Pro, 2022 and later Mac Studio, and 2019 and later Mac Pro.
