Apple just announced iOS 27 at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2026). Unlike the radical upgrades to the Liquid Glass interface in its predecessor, iOS 27 focuses on improving performance, stability, and resource management. Notably, this update maintains compatibility with all devices that received iOS 26, extending the software lifecycle for models released since 2019.

Optimizing performance for older hardware

At WWDC 2026, Stacey Ford, Apple's Vice President of Operating System Program Management, confirmed that the iPhone 11 series will be updated to iOS 27 this fall. The most significant change is the integration of an advanced CPU management system – a system previously only found on newer models.

"Even when you're multitasking with dozens of computationally intensive tasks, the CPU manager ensures the right tasks are executed at the right time," Ford explained. This improvement promises to fix lag issues on older devices running iOS 26, making them more responsive and smoother.
