
Fars quoted Mohsen Zanganeh, a member of the Iranian Parliament's Planning and Budget Committee, as saying that Tehran has begun implementing a plan to charge a service fee to ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. Accordingly, a working group has been established to implement the plan in coordination with the Iranian Ministry of Economy and Finance and under the supervision of the Supreme National Security Council.
The proceeds will be deposited into Iran's treasury and spent for specified purposes. Notably, some payments are made via the stablecoin Tether (USDT), commodities, or through bartering.
Meanwhile, the IRNA news agency quoted Ahmadreza Lahijanzadeh, Iran's Deputy Environment Minister, as confirming that the ministry has begun drafting regulations on charging fees in exchange for providing environmental services in the Strait of Hormuz.
