On the same day, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that US forces had approached and searched the Iranian-flagged oil tanker M/T Celestial Sea in the Gulf of Oman, then allowed the ship to continue its journey but requested a change of route. CENTCOM affirmed that it remains fully implementing the maritime blockade against Iran and has so far diverted 91 commercial vessels involved.
Meanwhile, on social media platform X, the People's Procuracy of the Strait of Hormuz (PGSA) stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran has officially defined the area under its surveillance. All vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz within this surveillance zone must cooperate with the PGSA.
In related developments, world oil prices fell below $100 per barrel on May 20th, after US President Donald Trump indicated that Washington-Tehran negotiations were entering their final stages. This signal raised expectations of easing tensions in the Middle East and reopening energy shipping lanes through the Strait of Hormuz.
