Israel and Lebanon agreed on June 3 (local time) to implement a ceasefire, but stressed that the agreement requires a “complete cessation” of Hezbollah's shelling.
According to a joint statement issued after US-led talks in Washington, Israel and Lebanon – two countries without formal diplomatic relations – also agreed to establish “pilot zones,” in which the Lebanese armed forces “will exclusively control the territory to exclude any non-state entities.”
In addition, both sides agreed to reconvene next week to continue negotiations on a “ political and security roadmap,” with the goal of reaching a “comprehensive agreement.”
