Israel and Lebanon agreed on June 4 to reinstate a ceasefire, but said this required Hezbollah to completely cease all hostilities, according to a joint statement released after US-mediated talks in Washington.
The two sides, which have no formal diplomatic relations, also agreed to establish "pilot zones" where the Lebanese army would have complete control of the territory and would not allow any non-state armed forces to operate.

The joint statement clarified that the Lebanese army would be solely responsible for security in these areas, in an effort to de-escalate tensions and prevent clashes along the border.
Israel and Lebanon also agreed to continue talks on political and security issues during the week beginning June 22, with the goal of reaching a more comprehensive agreement to maintain long-term stability in the region.
The new agreement is seen as the latest diplomatic effort by the US to maintain the ceasefire, which has repeatedly been on the verge of collapse due to recent clashes between Israel and Hezbollah.
On June 3rd, in an interview with New York Post journalist Miranda Devine, US President Donald Trump emphasized when referring to Iran: "They agreed that they would not possess nuclear weapons."
When asked about the involvement of Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei in negotiations with the US to end the conflict, Trump said: "He was involved, absolutely... I think they have a lot of respect for him."
Shortly before that, ABC News also reported that Iranian negotiators had given verbal assurances that the US administration would eventually agree to some terms related to Iran's nuclear program, but President Donald Trump determined in a meeting in the Situation Room that those commitments were not strong enough.
For weeks, negotiations between the US and Iran have focused on reaching a preliminary memorandum to formally extend the fragile ceasefire between the two countries, gradually reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and set a deadline for further talks on the nuclear issue.
