James Rodriguez's dreams in Mexico are shattered.

James Rodriguez continued his inconsistent spell at Club Leon, receiving a red card in the 0-2 defeat against Monterrey in the 17th round of the Mexican league on April 21st.

James Rodriguez received a red card on the day he reunited with his former teammate Ramos.

James's red card came in the 69th minute after a heated reaction to the referee. This was a match where James had the opportunity to reunite with his former teammate Sergio Ramos. But instead of a memorable encounter, James left the field in disappointment, while Ramos and Monterrey went home with all three points. Leon have lost 5 of their last 7 matches, losing the impressive form they had earlier in the year.

Previously, FIFA announced that Club Leon was disqualified from the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 for violating regulations on multi-club ownership. Both clubs belong to the Grupo Pachuca group. Although the Mexican team appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), their chances of competing remain very slim.

These two major blows hit the Colombian star's career in less than a month, making his dream of reviving his form in Liga MX more fragile than ever.

When James joined Club Leen in January, he was seen as a "golden boy" in the club's project to develop its stature on the international stage. After leaving Rayo Vallecano, James accepted the challenge in Liga MX. In his first few matches, he played impressively, helping the club remain unbeaten in 10 games.

However, since March, things have taken a turn for the worse with a string of poor results, low morale, and now an uncertain future. Mexican media have even suggested a "stopgap" solution: loaning James to Pachuca. If this happens, James would have the opportunity to face Real Madrid, Al Hilal, and Salzburg in Group H.

Currently, James's future at Club Leon is a big question mark. At 33, James needs to rediscover his form to continue proving himself in Mexico, or consider another destination in a journey that has already seen too many ups and downs.
