In early June, according to observations by reporters, the environmental pollution situation in the canals of My Thuan commune has shown many positive changes. Previously, many sections of the canals were littered with floating household waste, the water was black and emitted an unpleasant odor. Now, the landscape is somewhat cleaner. The amount of accumulated waste has decreased significantly, and the water surface in many areas is no longer covered by various types of waste as before.

The foul odors emanating from garbage and stagnant water have decreased, and the living environment for residents along the canals has improved. Although some areas still need further monitoring and resolution, these initial changes demonstrate the effectiveness of the solutions being implemented by the local authorities to address pollution along the canals.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Tu Em, residing in Son Tien hamlet, My Thuan commune, said that the recent positive changes along the canals are a welcome sign for the local people. According to Ms. Tu Em, to maintain a clean and beautiful environment, in addition to the involvement of relevant authorities, each citizen needs to raise their awareness, avoid littering, and work together to preserve the landscape of their living area. “When the environment is clean, the people benefit first. I hope everyone will be conscious of protecting the environment so that the results achieved today can be sustained in the long term,” Ms. Tu Em shared.
Having a close connection to the canals in his daily life, Mr. Danh Cua, residing in Thanh Cong hamlet, My Thuan commune, clearly feels the positive changes in the environment recently. According to Mr. Cua, his family mainly travels by boat on the canals in the area. Previously, many sections of the canals were often covered with floating garbage, making travel difficult; each time he used the boat, he had to carefully observe to avoid hitting garbage or obstacles. "Now, the canals are much cleaner and more open, making travel more convenient and safer than before," Mr. Cua said.
Mr. Duong Thanh Nha, Secretary of the Party Committee of My Thuan commune, said that after noting the pollution situation on some canals, the local authorities directed the People's Committee of the commune, relevant departments, organizations, and the people's committees of the hamlets to urgently implement remedial solutions. These solutions focused on reviewing areas with accumulated waste, organizing environmental sanitation campaigns, collecting garbage, clearing bushes along the banks, and unblocking the flow of water in the affected canals.
In addition to immediate solutions, the commune directed hamlets to strengthen propaganda and mobilize people to raise their awareness of environmental protection, not to throw garbage into canals and ditches, and to properly sort and dispose of waste according to regulations. Organizations intensified propaganda efforts through various appropriate forms to create a change in people's awareness and actions.
According to Mr. Nha, in the coming time, the commune will regularly maintain dredging and clearing of waterways on the canals; at the same time, it will research and implement appropriate engineering solutions to improve the effectiveness of environmental protection. For areas where littering frequently occurs, the commune will install prohibition signs, surveillance cameras, and strengthen inspections and strictly handle violations to enhance deterrence and prevent the recurrence of pollution.
