Opening Ceremony of the Da Nang Asian Film Festival

Ms. Ngo Phuong Lan, President of the Vietnam Film Promotion Association and Director of the Da Nang Asian Film Festival, delivered the opening speech for the festival.

In her opening remarks, Ms. Ngo Phuong Lan, President of the Vietnam Film Development Promotion Association and Director of the Film Festival, stated that the Film Festival is being held in the beautiful coastal city of Da Nang, often referred to as a livable and worthwhile city to visit in Vietnam.

According to Ms. Ngo Phuong Lan, after nearly a year of preparation, the film festival has taken shape, promising the development of a continental-level film event with the message "DANAFF - Bridge to Asia". The Da Nang Asian Film Festival is proof of implementing the new regulations in Vietnam's 2022 Film Law, and is also the first film festival organized by a city and a professional association. This trend is in line with the development of the film industry, connecting the potential-rich city of Da Nang with regional and global cinema, thereby helping to enhance and spread the charm of this beautiful city.

The Da Nang Asian Film Festival aims for a youthful and dynamic atmosphere; it will select and honor outstanding cinematic works that are rich in humanistic values, offer fresh discoveries , and possess unique artistic expression. Through this, it encourages new talents in Vietnamese and Asia-Pacific cinema; and widely introduces to the public new cinematic works of high content and artistic value from Asian and Vietnamese cinema, along with selected films from around the world.

At DANAFF I, international film friends and colleagues not only get to enjoy the latest selected works of Vietnamese cinema, but also discover the charm of Quang Nam province with many hands-on experiences. Audiences and Vietnamese filmmakers are treated to spectacular films from the Asia-Pacific region; and have the opportunity to exchange ideas and learn from international film experts.

The First Da Nang Asian Film Festival is one of the events realizing the city's policies and guidelines for cultural development in general, and the city's film industry in particular. This event also holds special significance for the city as it takes place in the context of Vietnam celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Vietnamese Cultural Outline (February 1943 - February 2023) and the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Film Industry (1953 - 2023).

The Da Nang Asian Film Festival was held from May 9-13, 2023, with the theme "DANAFF - Asian Bridge". The highlight of the festival was the competition among films in two categories: the ASEAN Film Award and the Vietnamese Film Award.
