Nghe An province is not only home to the beautiful Lam River, immortalized in poetry, music, and art, or its long coastline. If you take a journey to the Mekong Delta, you will be amazed by the majestic natural landscapes and unique cultural traditions of the local people.

The western part of Nghe An province comprises 11 districts, accounting for 84% of the province's total area. From the legendary National Highway 7, we began our journey to the western region, with our first stop being Anh Son district. A vast, sprawling landscape of mountains unfolded before our eyes.

If you've been to Ha Giang , you'll find the scenery in Anh Son resembles a rocky plateau. Mountains are layered and stretch endlessly towards the distant horizon, creating a deep blue landscape with immeasurable depth.

Traveling from Anh Son district to Con Cuong district, we fell in love with the Giang River, like a soft silk ribbon winding through majestic mountains. The most romantic scene here is at dawn, when we can admire the Pha Lai bridge in the early morning sun. Passing through Con Cuong to Tuong Duong district, we were overwhelmed by the vast, sprawling forests.

Arriving here on a cloudy day, the magical patches of green appearing and disappearing amidst the thin layer of mist made the scenery even more enchanting. Experienced travelers pointed out to us the sandalwood forest in Tam Dinh commune as the must-visit destination in Tuong Duong district.

The most surprising thing is the dedication of the local government and people to protecting the forest and nature over the past decades, resulting in this pristine forest remaining almost intact on both sides of National Highway 7. The Săng Lẻ forest, with its towering, straight trees, possesses a majestic natural beauty.

The sunlight, sparkling and filtering through the layers of green leaves, further accentuates the majestic, grayish-white tree trunks. Birds flit from branch to branch, singing a gentle love song of nature.

Anh Son, Con Cuong, and Tuong Duong are three districts whose areas are located within Pu Mat National Park, with its southern boundary running along the Vietnam-Laos border. In the Thai language, "Pu" means mountain peak, and "Pu Mat" refers to the highest peak in the area, reaching 1,841 meters, hence the National Park is named after this mountain.

For scientists , the name Pu Mat is familiar, as it was one of the first places where the rare Saola animal was discovered. It also boasts a vast area of pristine forest and high biodiversity with many species of flora and fauna. For the tourism community, Pu Mat is a pristine destination with mountain ranges, forests, waterfalls, streams, and rivers… all intact as nature created them.

For generations, the ethnic minority communities living here have maintained a lifestyle in harmony with nature and a simple, natural spirit, like the plants and flowers. Along the way, we stopped at Thai villages, chatted with them under their stilt houses, and admired the handicrafts made from rattan and bamboo, and the brocade fabrics. To welcome guests from afar, the Thai people invited the Kinh people from the lowlands to drink rice wine, enjoy highland cuisine, and dance the bamboo pole dance to the rhythm of the songs.
