With a diverse range of nighttime activities, visitors can have many unforgettable experiences in the capital city in the evening.
The "Ngoc Son - Mysterious Night" night tour combines 3D mapping lighting technology and semi-realistic performances to attract visitors seeking a unique experience.
Many exciting experiences
Nighttime tourism products in the capital are organized on many days of the week, so tourists can find suitable options to explore Hanoi at night at any time.
Some of these activities are organized regularly every day, such as: Water puppet performances at the Thang Long Puppet Theatre; experiencing a "Hanoi city tour" on a double-decker bus through 30 unique attractions; watching the flag-lowering ceremony at Ba Dinh Square, in front of the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum at 9 PM; visiting the Book Street on 19th December Street; listening to music at the outdoor " Music Garden" of the Grand Theatre... Beyond these experiences, visitors can also enjoy late-night culinary delights at Tong Duy Tan food street or street food stalls on Ta Hien and Luong Ngoc Quyen streets on weekend evenings.
Besides cultural and culinary venues open 24/7, Hanoi has also developed attractive nighttime art performances. The launch of numerous night tours at historical sites such as Hoa Lo Prison and Thang Long Imperial Citadel (on weekends); Temple of Literature - National University (on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays); and Ngoc Son Temple (on Wednesdays and Thursdays)... has provided many interesting experiences for tourists. Currently, these night tours are available at various price points.
For example, the "Sacred Night" tour at the Hoa Lo Prison historical site (version 2) costs 399,000 VND/ticket; the "Essence of Philosophy" night tour at the Temple of Literature costs 199,000 VND/ticket; the "Ngoc Son - Mysterious Night" tour at Ngoc Son Temple costs 268,000 VND/ticket; the night tour at the Museum of Literature costs 100,000 VND/ticket for children and 200,000 VND/ticket for adults...
Nguyen Tu Anh, a tourist from Ho Chi Minh City visiting relatives in Hanoi, said that Hanoi's tourism has changed significantly, offering many attractive experiences, especially at night.
“I had to book tickets a week in advance to see the night tour at Hoa Lo Prison. It was a fascinating experience to learn about history. My family also took me to enjoy street food on weekend evenings on Luong Ngoc Quyen Street. During my time in Hanoi, I experienced so many interesting cultural spots,” Ms. Nguyen Tu Anh expressed.
Meanwhile, Ms. Hoang Thu Hien (from Nam Tu Liem district) said that although she has lived in Hanoi for many years, she was very surprised to experience the "Ngoc Son - Mysterious Night" night tour at Ngoc Son Temple for the first time.
“I’ve been to Ngoc Son Temple many times, but the evening program is a different experience. The show is elaborately staged, beautiful, and features captivating lighting technology,” Ms. Hien shared. Meanwhile, Philip Walter, a British tourist, said he really enjoyed the royal palace night tour at the Thang Long Imperial Citadel heritage site.
Positioning the tourism brand of the Capital City.
Hanoi's night tour products have been maintained for many years to promote the development of the capital's cultural industry. The novelty and innovative thinking of destination businesses have brought a unique identity to Hanoi tourism.
In 2017, the "Quintessence of Northern Vietnam" live performance, premiered on a large 4,300m2 stage at the foot of Thày Pagoda Mountain (Sài Sơn commune, Quốc Oai district), made a strong impression on domestic and international tourists, becoming a landmark of Hanoi's tourism. Since then, Hanoi has added many more attractive and innovative nighttime performance programs. Significantly, technology has become an indispensable part of these night tours.
For example, the night tour at the Temple of Literature - National University offers a unique experience with its 3D mapping light projection (a technique using light and images to create 3D effects on a surface) to convey philosophical content. Most recently, the "Ngoc Son - Mysterious Night" night tour combines both 3D mapping technology and a semi-realistic performance. After its launch, the program received much positive feedback.
Speaking about developing nighttime tourism products, Nguyen Doan Van, Director of the Hanoi Relics and Scenic Spots Management Board, expressed his thoughts: “No matter how valuable a heritage site is, it is only a ‘resource.’ To create an attractive environment to draw tourists, we need to transform that heritage value into a cultural product. Therefore, with the guidance and direction of the city, we are striving to implement night tours to contribute to positioning the cultural and tourism brand of the capital.”
According to Le Xuan Kieu, Director of the Cultural and Scientific Activities Center of Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giám, investing in technology for night tours requires significant costs, but the center is still striving to maintain them to create a regular cultural and tourist destination for visitors.
The Hanoi Party Committee issued Resolution No. 09-NQ/TU on the development of the cultural industry in the capital city for the period 2021-2025, with orientations to 2030 and a vision to 2045, aiming to maximize the potential, strengths, and cultural values that reflect the identity of the capital city, turning these values into resources for the economic and social development of Hanoi. With this spirit, destination businesses are striving to build attractive cultural and tourism products that are rich in the essence and culture of Hanoi to create a unique identity.
According to Dang Huong Giang, Director of the Hanoi Department of Tourism, the Department will coordinate with localities to review and propose the development of more night-time tourism products. "These products must ensure that they capitalize on the existing potential and unique characteristics of each locality," Ms. Dang Huong Giang stated.
