Discover the rose paradise of Sa Pa.

Phạm Công ĐảoPhạm Công Đảo30/07/2023

On the way to the summit of Fansipan Mountain in Sa Pa town, tourists will be surprised to see thousands of rose bushes, including both ancient Sa Pa varieties and imported ones, in a variety of colors and sizes, right at the Fansipan cable car station.

With its mild climate year-round, Sa Pa is home to a multitude of flowers. If you visit Sa Pa in the summer, you'll see bougainvillea plants lining the streets, their vibrant colors covering the entire tree. Besides the colorful bougainvillea, Sa Pa also boasts many rhododendron gardens blanketing the hillsides. But perhaps the most famous and beloved by tourists is the rose.

Tourists take photos on the way to Fansipan Rose Garden.

The rose paradise in Sa Pa is perhaps the garden at the Fansipan cable car station. While Fansipan used to attract tourists with the desire to conquer its 3,143m peak, now, besides the highest peak in Indochina, visitors will also enjoy exploring the garden, spanning thousands of square meters, with thousands of unique rose bushes. Some plants produce flowers as large as a rice bowl, others have clusters of small, vibrant red blossoms. Some have white, red, or yellow flowers, while others boast incredibly unique deep purple blooms.

The fragrant scent of roses in the cool mountain air above 1,500m brings a sense of relaxation to visitors.

Many tourists are quite surprised and delighted when they find themselves lost in the vast rose garden of Fansipan. If you're not in a hurry to reach the summit of Fansipan, you can spend an hour here to explore and take photos, as it's rare to find such a wide variety of beautiful and unique roses anywhere else.

Many beautiful and rare rose varieties are grown at Fansipan Rose Garden.

The rose garden here is quite well-designed. There's an area dedicated to growing imported roses, with very large blooms and unique colors. There's also an area for climbing roses with trellises taller than a person, bearing many small, pretty flower clusters. And there's also an area for growing native roses like white roses and velvet roses, which exude a fragrant scent.

This imported rose variety grows to nearly 1.5 meters tall.

This variety produces small flowers that bloom in clusters.

Sa Pa is famous for its ancient rose variety, which is grown by many gardeners both to attract tourists and to propagate and distribute to other regions according to local demand. However, this ancient rose variety is quite "fussy," perhaps only thriving in a year-round cool climate like Sa Pa.

Climbing roses are considered easier to grow than other varieties.

Sapa's old-fashioned roses come in many varieties, such as the climbing rose, which many gardeners cultivate to cover rooftops and verandas. If tourists visit Sapa in the spring, they will see climbing roses blooming all over the rooftops, looking from afar like a vibrant red carpet. Climbing roses usually produce small flowers that bloom in clusters, but with rich colors and a very fragrant scent.

Climbing roses completely cover the eaves of the Dreamy Rose Garden tourist attraction in Sa Pa.

Each rose garden in Sa Pa boasts its own unique rose varieties and design style, creating a distinct beauty for each garden. Located about 10km from Sa Pa town, the Dreamy Rose Garden sits right on the road leading to the O Quy Ho Pass, making it quite convenient for tourists to visit. The 2-hectare garden impresses visitors right from the entrance, where a canopy is covered in vibrant red climbing roses. Beyond the gate lies a series of Sa Pa's antique roses, from white to velvety red… The entire 2-hectare garden is primarily planted with roses.

The owner of the rose garden is very concerned with preserving and breeding antique roses. There are about 400 rose bushes here, some over 30 years old, all cherished and carefully cared for by the owner. The garden is also quite uniquely designed, with small pathways winding through the rose bushes and adorned with small, natural rocks found on the hillside. From the rose garden, visitors can gaze out at the terraced rice fields and listen to the gentle sound of the stream flowing between the hills.

Climbing roses have the advantage of blooming evenly from the base to the top.

Sa Pa also has many other rose gardens, such as the nearly 5-hectare garden of the Hoang Lien Community Ecotourism Cooperative, which has over 200 ancient rose bushes decades old. Or the ancient rose garden in Sau Chua village, the Ta Phin rose garden…

This is also a popular tourist attraction for many visitors to Sa Pa.

But perhaps the most famous and beautiful to date is the rose garden at the Fansipan cable car station. The mild, cool climate year-round ensures that the roses in every garden are vibrant and colorful. It would be a real shame for visitors to come to Sa Pa but not explore these stunning gardens.
