Because of the darkness and panic, the fishermen could not identify the person attacking them," Mr. Dong said.

The attack caused fisherman NVM (30 years old, living in Ha Tien, Kien Giang) to be shot in the leg; Fisherman LTV (45 years old, residing in Phu Quoc City) was shot through his calf by a bullet. And fisherman D.V.D (51 years old, living in Ha Tien city) was shot in the face by a bullet.

Mr. Dong said that if the people on the three fishing boats did not handle it promptly, the consequences would be unpredictable. “The incident caused confusion among fishermen. Now they go to the beach with anxiety, not knowing when they will be attacked," Mr. Dong worried.

Talking about the reason for the attack, Mr. Dong also said: "There have been many times when our fishing boats have been threatened with attacks, with stones and shells thrown onto the boat, but this time they attacked really badly. Their purpose is to prevent exploitation in that sea area, so they can sell the fishing grounds. They also said it was their waters and prohibited us from entering and exploiting it."
