Starting in 2017, in the rice fields of the former Gio My commune (now Gio Linh commune), farmers began producing rice organically. Aiming for high-yield, high-quality harvests, they boldly switched from older varieties to the ST25 rice variety. This new variety not only increases yield but also produces fragrant, soft, and delicious rice.
To help local farmers build their own brand of rice products, the Gio Linh Organic Agricultural Products Cooperative was established in 2024. The cooperative has developed an organic rice production area of 25 hectares for growing ST25 rice, including 5 hectares of rice combined with freshwater prawn farming following a circular economy model. The rice produced here is branded as Gio My delicious rice.

Mr. Nguyen Giang, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director of Gio Linh Organic Agricultural Products Cooperative, said: “To successfully build the brand of delicious Gio My rice, the most important factor is to produce rice of high quality, fragrant, and clean to build customer trust. Therefore, we chose the organic rice production process. With this process, the cooperative guides farmers to only use organic microbial fertilizers and biological preparations from ginger, garlic, chili, etc., to spray and control pests and diseases on rice plants, without using chemical fertilizers or pesticides. The production process is strictly monitored and inspected. At the end of the season, when the rice ripens, the cooperative will use machinery to harvest and purchase fresh rice directly from the fields, then bring it to the factory for drying according to technical requirements, ensuring the quality of the rice grains during storage in the warehouse.”
Along with focusing on quality and ensuring food safety, Gio My delicious rice boasts attractive packaging designs and convenient packaging for consumers to purchase for personal use or as gifts, with a variety of rice types such as white rice, brown rice, broken rice, etc. As a result, in 2025, Gio My delicious rice successfully achieved a 3-star OCOP product rating, was among the Top 50 Vietnamese Gold Products, and met Vietnamese organic standards.
Ms. Le Thi Quynh Hoa, from Nam Dong Ha ward, shared: “My family has used many different rice brands from within and outside the province, but Gio My delicious rice is still one of the brands my family likes the most because of its safe quality and fragrant, sticky grains. The rice is fragrant, delicious, and is an OCOP product of the province, so my family will continue to support and choose Gio My delicious rice for the long term.”
With its proven quality, Gio My's premium rice brand is gradually establishing its position in the market. The product is available in many provinces and cities nationwide, with Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi , and the central provinces being major consumer markets. Each year, the Gio Linh Organic Agricultural Cooperative achieves a production volume of approximately 310-350 tons, generating revenue of 2.8-3.1 billion VND.
According to Mr. Nguyen Giang, Chairman and Director of Gio Linh Organic Agricultural Products Cooperative: "With these initial successes, in the coming time, the cooperative will continue to expand the production area and complete the European organic certification to bring Gio My delicious rice products to the international market, contributing to affirming the quality and brand of rice in particular and agricultural products of Quang Tri in general."
