Many insightful opinions were raised during the thematic discussion program "Issues of Current Concern in Stage Art Creation and Performance," organized by the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee on March 25th.

This is the second program organized by the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee; the first was a music event.
The program took place at the D War Zone Memorial Area (Bac Tan Uyen commune, Ho Chi Minh City), bringing together approximately 50 artists, authors, directors, and stage producers from various fields such as spoken drama, Cai Luong (Vietnamese traditional opera), and Hat Boi (Vietnamese classical theater)...
Many veteran artists and young actors participated, including Le Thien, Kim Xuan, Huu Quoc, Quoc Thao, Tuyet Thu, Tu Suong, Le Trung Thao, Binh Tinh, Viet Ha, Minh Du, Tieu Minh Phung, Thanh Binh, Bao Chau, Kieu My, directors Le Nguyen Dat and Hoang Duan, and writers Le Thu Hanh, Ngoc Truc, Pham Van Dang, Tran Kim Khoi, and Dinh Nguyen…
Ms. Ngoc Diem, Deputy Head of the Culture and Arts Department of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, said that the trip not only took artists to historical sites such as the memorial house of General Huynh Van Nghe, the central monument, and the exhibition house of the D War Zone, but the main focus was that the Department and the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports also wanted to listen to the thoughts and feelings of those working in the theater.
During this gathering, artists and theater managers freely expressed their thoughts and concerns about the current state of the theater.

We hope the government will lend a hand to the theater.
People's Artist Kim Xuân from Thiên Đăng Theatre expressed that she has been active in theatre for 50 years. She believes that those who remain involved in theatre today do so out of passion, and they face many difficulties in nurturing that passion and keeping the theatre running, especially in socially-funded theatres.
Quoc Thao and impresario Huynh Anh Tuan were concerned that all privately-run theaters had to rent venues, making them very precarious. Each performance required the impresario to cover losses just to survive.
Quoc Thao hopes the government will have a policy of allocating land to powerful individuals so they can build theaters and secure contracts for decades. As someone with weaker resources, he hopes to be given a performance venue, even a dilapidated one, but one that can be maintained for a long time so he can invest in renovating it into a stable, independent performance space for the stage.

"People say that Ho Chi Minh City's theater scene is the strongest in the country, and it's also contributing to the cultural industry, so I think producers should also be given preferential treatment, to give them more motivation to develop the theater," Mr. Tuan emphasized.
Artist Thanh Binh from the Ho Chi Minh City Traditional Opera Theatre hopes that authorities will pay attention to the current severe shortage of traditional opera scripts, as those who can write them are getting old, and there are no young writers. Finding scripts adapted from spoken drama or reformed opera is very difficult.
Ms. Dinh Thi Thanh Thuy, Deputy Head of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, expressed her deep sympathy for the situation of the city's theater scene. She emphasized that Resolution 80 on culture contains many positive aspects that can give us confidence in gradually turning our dreams into reality.
She suggested that the Arts and Culture Department of the committee record all the thoughts and feelings of the artists, and then coordinate with the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports to incorporate these suggestions into a clear and specific plan.
