I am a female hydroelectric power plant worker.

Having worked at the Ho Ho Hydropower Plant for nearly 20 years, Ms. Do Thi Hong Xuan (from Huong Do commune) is the only female worker in charge of plant operation. With a sense of responsibility, dedication, and love for her profession, she and her colleagues have silently ensured the safe and stable operation of the power supply.

I am Do Thi Hong Xuan (born in 1981, from Huong Do commune), the only female operating worker at the Ho Ho Hydropower Plant. I have been with the plant for nearly 20 years. During that time, I have been alongside the power generators, working through night shifts and enduring stressful rainy seasons and floods.

The Ho Ho Hydropower Plant, located on the Ngan Sau River in Tuyen Son commune (Quang Tri province) and Phuc Trach commune ( Ha Tinh province), plays a crucial role in electricity generation and water regulation, contributing to improving the quality of electricity supply in the region.

My shift usually starts at 7:00 AM. Before taking on my duties, the shift team holds a handover meeting to update the operational status of the generators, equipment systems, technical parameters, and important points to note during the shift. This is a crucial step that helps operators fully understand the equipment's condition, ensuring continuous, safe, and efficient electricity production.

During my shift, I spend most of my time in the central control room. Here, the display screens show a series of operating parameters for the turbines, generators, and auxiliary equipment. For the operators, each number on the screen is not simply technical data but also reflects the safety status of the system.

The first thing I do during each shift is access the system to monitor and compare operating parameters, thereby identifying any changes compared to the previous shift.

To perform my job well, an operator like me must have a thorough understanding of key parameters such as voltage, current, power output, frequency, bearing temperature, oil pressure, and reservoir water level. Each of these indicators reflects the operating status of the generator unit and the entire system.

Every hour, I regularly record the operational data in my logbook.

Having worked at the factory for nearly 20 years, I've experienced thousands of shifts. The work is repetitive, but I've never allowed myself to be complacent, because even a small anomaly can affect the factory's operation.

In addition to monitoring on the control system, my colleagues and I regularly conduct direct checks of the speed control cabinets and excitation cabinets, monitoring the power output, water guide vane opening, generator frequency, and related technical indicators.

Currently, the reservoir water level is continuously decreasing, directly affecting the power generation plan. During my shift, Mr. Nguyen Anh Dung - the shift supervisor - always closely monitors hydrological data, water inflow into the reservoir, and actual water levels with me to develop appropriate operating scenarios.

Besides the central control room, during my shift, I will also go down to the engine room and the technical basements to check the turbines, generators, and auxiliary systems.

During the course of their work, the workers regularly exchange expertise and share experiences in handling real-world operational situations, thereby helping each other improve their skills and accumulate more knowledge about equipment and systems.

During my shift, in addition to monitoring and operating the system in the central control room, I also regularly inspect the site with the plant's leadership, especially the head dam area and other key construction items. Joining me today is Mr. Nguyen Ba Tuan – Deputy Director of Ho Ho Hydropower Plant.

The reservoir's current water level is 62.93m, 6m lower than the same period in 2025. Consequently, the plant is operating at approximately 45% capacity, prioritizing power generation during peak hours. To ensure both electricity supply and efficient water use, every operational decision must be carefully considered.

After checking the reservoir water level, I continued to inspect the various components of the production line. Operating switches, checking equipment, and handling unforeseen situations are familiar tasks for me after many years in this profession.

The Ho Ho Hydropower Plant has been in operation for many years, and some equipment components are gradually deteriorating, such as the generator control equipment and the water pumping system. Therefore, in addition to my daily professional duties, my colleagues and I also spend a lot of time researching and proposing technical improvement solutions to enhance the operational efficiency of this equipment.

Successfully implemented technical improvements not only enhance equipment availability but also contribute to ensuring more stable and safer plant operation.
