Inspire the spirit of learning through scholarship programs

Inheriting and promoting that spirit, in recent years, Ninh Binh province has had many science and technology programs, demonstrated by awarding scholarships and gifts, not only encouraging spiritually but also creating resources to support students in difficult circumstances, excellent students, students with high achievements in studying and training, with qualities and talents, contributing to improving people's knowledge and nurturing talents for the homeland.

Mr. Nguyen Manh Truong, Chairman of the Provincial Association for Promotion of Education, said: In the process of formation and development, Ninh Binh has fostered good and valuable cultural traditions. In particular, studiousness and encouragement of learning are considered a deep source, nurturing many generations of talented people for the homeland and the country. The above forms of encouragement of learning are recorded in the village covenants of many villages and communes in the province. Thanks to the progressive ideas in the activities of encouraging learning of the ancient Ninh Binh people, learning has been promoted, creating many villages and communes with mandarinates that are passed down by people as "Land of Learning", "Mandarin Village", "Doctor Village", with many famous mandarins such as Truong Han Sieu, Vu Duy Thanh, etc.

In recent years, implementing resolutions and directives of the Party and Government, especially Directive 11-CT/TW dated April 13, 2007 of the Politburo on "Strengthening the Party's leadership in the work of promoting learning, promoting talents, and building a learning society", our province has had the active participation of all levels, sectors, agencies, units, organizations, and individuals, in which the Association for Promoting Learning plays a core role, achieving many positive results, especially in rewarding students who have achieved many achievements in their studies and supporting students in difficult circumstances.

Many scholarship funds have been established and awarded to studious children, receiving the attention, support and participation of all classes of people. A typical example is the Dinh Bo Linh Science and Technology Fund. In just 3 years (2020, 2021, 2022), the program "Wings of Dreams" has been organized, rewarding 891 excellent students, students, and athletes with outstanding achievements, with an amount of nearly 4 billion VND. Being recognized and rewarded by the Dinh Bo Linh Science and Technology Fund is the goal and dream of many students from Ninh Binh.

In particular, in addition to rewarding and awarding one-time and one-term scholarships to students, many organizations, individuals and philanthropists have awarded scholarships to students in particularly difficult circumstances for many consecutive years and the value of the scholarships is relatively high, supporting thousands of students on the path of nurturing their dreams, studying and training, striving to become useful people for society.

In 3 years (2020, 2021, 2022), the Standing Committee of the Provincial Association for Promotion of Education coordinated with Thien Tam Fund - Vingroup Corporation, Viettel Military Telecommunications Company, Ninh Binh branch, Long Son Cement Company, Phu My Hung Company to select and appraise to award 1,100 scholarships to students in difficult circumstances, with a total amount of 3,150 billion VND.

Inspire the spirit of learning through scholarship programs — Representatives of Long Son Cement Company awarded scholarships to 100 orphaned students and students with special difficulties in Ninh Binh province for the 2023-2024 school year, each scholarship worth 6.3 million VND.

Also in 3 years (2020, 2021, 2022), the Association for Promotion of Education from the district level to branches, family promotion boards, agencies, unions, social organizations and philanthropists have rewarded 368,727 excellent students, students with excellent achievements, with a total amount of 30,220 million VND; awarded scholarships and gifts to 25,549 students in difficult circumstances, with an amount of 19,403 million VND; presented gifts to 9,870 students, with an amount of 4,851 million VND.

Scholarships awarded one time or regularly have great significance, helping many students in difficult circumstances to be encouraged and continue their studies. A typical example is the case of Dinh Minh Quang, a student at Yen Ninh Town Secondary School (Yen Khanh District). Quang's situation is quite difficult when his father died early, his mother is in poor health, and she only works in agriculture, so the family's financial resources are very limited. The upbringing and education of Quang and his brother sometimes seemed to have to be temporarily suspended.

Ms. Doan Thi Loi, mother of Dinh Minh Quang, shared: I once thought about letting my child drop out of school when the family was in such a difficult situation. But seeing my child being obedient and eager to study, I couldn't bear it. At that time of despair, my family received the attention of the school, organizations and unions with practical and meaningful gifts such as books, school supplies, new clothes, especially a monthly scholarship of 500,000 VND, creating great motivation for me and my children to overcome difficulties to continue going to school, not letting down the hearts of teachers and benefactors.

So for the past 2 years, in the small house there are no valuable assets, but there are many valuable rewards, which are certificates of merit, excellent student awards, international medals that Dinh Minh Quang has achieved. Quang said, thanks to the gifts and scholarships given, he has more motivation, not inferiority complex about his situation to always be good, diligent in studying, exemplary in all activities of the class and of the school. Quang is loved, cared for and helped by teachers and friends, becoming a shining example for many friends to learn and follow.

As one of the units with an active and effective science and technology movement, the Provincial Women's Union (VWU) has harmoniously combined the "Godmother" program launched by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union with the "Scholarship with children to overcome difficulties to go to school" project. Clearly promoting the role and responsibility of the Union in propaganda, mobilization, and connection work to support the care and nurturing of orphans and children in especially difficult circumstances, helping them not to be left behind.

Ms. Vu Thi Ha, Vice President of the Provincial Women's Union, said: With the role of representing and protecting the legitimate and legal rights of women and children, in recent years, the Women's Union at all levels in the province has actively participated with all levels and sectors in caring for and protecting children with meaningful and practical actions. Typically, the effective implementation of the "Godmother" program and the "Scholarship with children to overcome difficulties to go to school" project with the spirit of giving all the best to children. In 2021, the Union at all levels organized a review and made a list of orphans and children in especially difficult circumstances in the locality.

As of the end of August 2023, the whole province had 1,348 orphans, of which 682 were in difficult circumstances. In the past 2 years, the Women's Union at all levels has mobilized to give "Scholarships to help children overcome difficulties to go to school", and study encouragement gifts, Tet gifts to 2,638 poor, disabled, and orphaned students, worth nearly 1 billion VND. From July to now, in preparation for the new school year, the Union has mobilized 221 children to receive school supplies and scholarships, of which 18 children were sponsored (given "Scholarships to help children overcome difficulties to go to school") until they finish high school, bringing the total number of sponsored children to 106.

With the profound humanitarian spirit and the nation's morality of helping each other, science and technology work, programs and activities of giving gifts such as bicycles, books, school supplies, scholarships... to poor students who overcome difficulties, students with difficult circumstances, disabled students, excellent students... have been given regularly, especially on the occasion of the new school year, the end of the school year, holidays, Tet, and anniversaries of youth and the nation, arousing the spirit of humanity and sharing love of organizations and individuals throughout society.

Thanks to this resource, the seemingly unfinished dream of going to school of many poor students has been lit up, nurturing the dreams of many children to strive to study and grow up, becoming useful people for society.
