Start a business from growing coffee trees

Bold, daring to think, daring to do, Mr. Cam Van Hoang, Director of Sang Na Tre Agricultural Cooperative, Chieng Mai Commune, has successfully started a business with coffee trees, inspiring many rural youths to strive to get rich on their homeland.

Mr. Cam Van Hoang shares his experience in taking care of coffee trees with members of the Cooperative.

In 2018, Mr. Hoang worked at Phuc Sinh Son La Joint Stock Company, a large enterprise in the field of coffee processing and exporting. Nearly 6 years of working have helped him accumulate valuable experience in production techniques, processing, quality management and understanding market demand. However, his greatest aspiration is still to directly create clean products with the rich flavor of Son La coffee.

In July 2023, Mr. Hoang participated in the implementation of the model "Each village has an economic model", he mobilized a number of households to establish the Sang Na Tre Agricultural Cooperative with 11 initial members. The goal of the Cooperative is not only to link up to produce clean coffee, but also to build a brand, package and find stable output.

Officially established in March 2024, he devoted all his time and passion to production and operation of the cooperative. With more than 2 hectares of coffee available to his family, Mr. Hoang boldly applied a sustainable farming model: intercropping fruit trees for shade, limiting pests and diseases, keeping the soil moist; at the same time, using completely organic fertilizers instead of chemical fertilizers, reducing input costs, ensuring quality and long-term development of coffee trees. To date, the cooperative has grown to 18 members, growing 30 hectares of coffee, following a clean production process, using completely organic fertilizers, only harvesting ripe fruits, ensuring quality.

Sharing about the coffee processing process of the cooperative, Mr. Cam Van Hoang said: After harvesting, coffee is washed, hulled, naturally fermented, dried on mesh racks in a greenhouse to avoid impurities, then roasted and ground using a modern machine system, helping to preserve the aroma and characteristic flavor. The products are packaged, labeled, and brought to market, highly appreciated by customers for their quality, creating trust and competitive advantages, increasingly expanding the market in the province and customers in big cities. The cooperative's revenue reaches nearly 8 billion VND/year, the income of members reaches 400 - 600 million VND/year.

Mr. Nguyen Hai Son, Chairman of the People's Committee of Chieng Mai Commune, assessed: The model of Sang Na Tre Agricultural Cooperative, directed by Mr. Cam Van Hoang, not only helps to increase the value of local coffee, but also contributes to changing the production mindset of the people from fragmented and small-scale production to linkage and brand building. This is a sustainable direction that the commune encourages and continues to accompany and support in the coming time.

With the initial success, it is the motivation for Mr. Cam Van Hoang to continue to demonstrate the role of a dynamic and creative cooperative leader, expanding the chain of production, processing and consumption of coffee, enriching the people, bringing the flavor of local coffee to the markets.
