Ta Rut is flourishing.

Despite being a mountainous area with a majority of its population being ethnic minorities, the socio-economic landscape of Ta Rut commune, Dakrong district, has seen significant improvements in recent years. This is the result of the attention and investment from the Party and the State, the efforts of the entire grassroots political system, and the collective contributions of the local people.

When they first got married, Ho Thi Mai and her husband, residing in A Dang village, Ta Rut commune, faced many difficulties. Their only asset was their poverty certificate. Although they owned farmland, they only cultivated short-term crops using traditional methods, resulting in low economic returns. A chance for change arose when the local authorities implemented programs and projects aimed at poverty reduction in remote and mountainous areas, and their family was selected to participate.

With access to preferential loans, the young couple boldly invested in a small grocery store to serve the needs of local residents, while also expanding their livestock farming and crop cultivation using the knowledge they gained from training. As a result, Mai's family life has improved, and their children have the opportunity to receive an education and grow up successfully.

“I opened my grocery store in 2017, initially selling only basic items. Gradually, I invested in becoming a distributor of various beverages and selling fresh food to serve the local community daily. In addition, thanks to support projects, my family planted an additional 2 hectares of flowering trees and 5 hectares of acacia trees. As a result, our family income has stabilized, and we have escaped poverty sustainably,” Ms. Mai happily shared.

A new development in Ta Rut's economy over the past two years has been the increasing focus on employment opportunities for its residents through overseas labor export programs. Through effective and high-quality collaborative programs, the number of local people working abroad in countries such as Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan has steadily increased. This has led to higher and more stable incomes, providing ethnic minority communities with better opportunities to improve their lives.

With her husband participating in the labor export program in Japan, the economic conditions of Ms. Ho Thi Thia's family in Ta Rut 1 village have completely changed. "My husband started working abroad at the end of 2023, earning an average of over 30 million VND per month. This income has helped our family build a new house, pay off bank loans, and provide for our children's education. In addition, it's an important source of capital that allows me at home to develop our own economy by planting acacia, cassava, and bananas," Ms. Thia shared.

Ta Rut commune currently has 7 villages with 1,333 households/5,147 inhabitants. This area was once considered an "isolated zone," located tens of kilometers away from the center of Dakrong district. The only way to reach Ta Rut was via the Ho Chi Minh Highway, which was severely degraded. In recent years, thanks to the attention and investment in building a comprehensive infrastructure system including electricity, roads, schools, and health stations, especially rural transportation, Ta Rut has transformed its appearance, creating favorable conditions for people to trade, exchange goods, and develop socio-economic conditions.

In 2024 alone, the commune had a total cultivated area of over 662 hectares, mainly consisting of crops such as rice, corn, cassava, and various vegetables, with a grain production of nearly 600 tons. The total livestock and poultry population exceeded 9,400 animals. There are currently 58 service businesses operating in the area, generating economic benefits. As a result, the local poverty rate has decreased to 39.9%.

Administrative procedures are handled openly and transparently, reducing processing time for organizations and citizens. In 2024, the locality achieved and exceeded the planned targets for 17 out of 19 socio-economic indicators.

According to Ho Van Buoc, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ta Rut commune, the socio-economic development results of the commune in recent years have been a great driving force helping the people and local government to continue striving for socio-economic development and building new rural areas. Specifically, the commune's goal is to achieve a total local budget revenue of over 7.9 billion VND by 2025, including 110 million VND collected within the commune; reduce the poverty rate by an additional 5%; increase two more criteria and have one village achieve the new rural development goals...

With the advantage of having the Ho Chi Minh Highway running through it, along with the increasingly vibrant import and export activities through the La Lay International Border Gate, it is hoped that this will be an opportunity to transform Ta Rut into a dynamic market town. The local Party committee and government have strived to turn these opportunities into a foundation for economic development, resulting in a noticeable improvement in the lives of the people.

To help Ta Rut achieve these goals, we sincerely hope to continue receiving more attention and support from all levels so that the locality can continue its efforts to build a more developed mountainous commune. These are also the foundations and prerequisites for the development of the Ta Rut New Urban Area Master Plan until 2045, in accordance with the direction of Quang Tri province.
