Authorities prosecute individual for defrauding people by organizing IELTS certificate exams to steal their money.

TTH.VN - On April 17th, the Security Investigation Department announced that it had coordinated with the Cyber ​​Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department of the Hue City Police to issue a decision to initiate a criminal case, indict the suspect, issue a travel ban, and issue a search warrant for the residence of Phan Thi Nhat Vi (born in 1999, residing in Cu Lai Dong village, Phu Hai commune, Phu Vang district).

The Security Investigation Agency of the Hue City Police read out the search warrant at the suspect's private residence.

Previously, starting in April 2024, Phan Thi Nhat Vi used a fake Facebook account to message and get acquainted with a victim in Tra Cu district ( Tra Vinh province). After a period of close conversation, knowing that the victim had not yet registered for the IELTS exam, Vi introduced the victim to register for IELTS preparation and testing at an English center in Hue.

During this process, Vi used various false and misleading pieces of information to gain the victims' trust, then demanded money from them under different pretexts such as: exam fees, exam cancellation notices, fees for rescheduling exams, promises of refunds after the exams, and many other reasons... Vi used fake bank accounts to receive money transferred by the victims and defrauded them of over 164 million VND.

The Security Investigation Agency of the Hue City Police Department is expanding its investigation into the case and is requesting that anyone who is a victim of the suspect Phan Thi Nhat Vi in connection with the aforementioned methods and tactics contact the Security Investigation Agency of the Hue City Police Department at 2 Nguyen Thai Hoc Street, Phu Hoi Ward (Thuan Hoa District).
