The "multi-layered" exhibition space of artist Trinh Thang

VHO - Following the first exhibition at the Vietnam Fine Arts Exhibition House, 16 Ngo Quyen Street, artist and Doctor Trinh Thang continues to open a completely new exhibition structure for his series of paintings on cowhide leather, "Promise for Next Season," at the Cultural and Arts Center - 22 Hang Buom Street, Hanoi, under the title: "Unveiling the Secret - Promise for Next Season."

While at the Vietnam Fine Arts Exhibition House, nearly 70 works are displayed in a spirit of free, spontaneous, and multifaceted expression, without suggesting or directing a specific approach, at the Cultural and Arts Center, the entire space is restructured as a journey guiding viewers deeper into the layers of being and awareness on the journey of life.

Sharing his thoughts on this new creative rhythm, Dr. Trinh Thang said: “In the space of the Vietnam Fine Arts Exhibition House, every artwork exists as it truly is – innocent, free, happy, and peaceful.”

But stepping into the space of the Cultural and Arts Center is like "unveiling" a new, very special journey. It's not about revealing answers, but about collectively uncovering layers of self, of life, and of the viewer themselves. Behind that veil of secrecy, each person will have their own door to enter "The Promise for the Next Season."

That spirit is also encapsulated by Dr. Trinh Thang in a poem titled "Five Wisdoms of the Saha World" – serving as a guiding principle throughout this exhibition:

The Three Jewels bestow supreme blessings.

The Dharma realm encompasses all directions.

The Holy Spirit is infinitely fearless.

Unparalleled from bottom to middle, from top to bottom.

The Saha world gives rise to Nirvana.

According to the author, these are five essential intellectual qualities for a person on their journey of enlightenment: faith in the source of benevolent light; the ability to recognize the teachings in all aspects of life; fearlessness and unwavering resolve in the face of challenges; a spirit always striving for higher ideals; and the capacity for transformation within the human realm.

The space "Unveiling Secrets - A Promise for Next Season" is structured into three main components: "Fundamental Doctrine" - "Mother Nature" - "Father Nature".

From fundamental doctrines to the deeper levels of being

The space "Unveiling Secrets - A Promise for Next Season" is structured into three main components: Fundamental Teachings - Maternal Nature - Paternal Nature . More than just a division of content, these three components function as three spiritual dimensions corresponding to the human journey from the foundation of existence, to inner wisdom, and finally to boundless compassion for all things.

In this context, the first component – ​​fundamental doctrine – is considered the first step in any life journey. According to Dr. Trinh Thang, regardless of tradition, culture, religion, or ideology, people need a "core doctrine" to keep themselves from losing their way amidst the vicissitudes of life.

This is also the dimension of "Great Courage" - inner steadfastness to fully follow the path one has chosen.

Using stone, rope, metal, and leather, artist Dr. Trinh Thang has created a unique space.

Following this is the Motherly component – ​​which explores the qualities inherent in a mother: wisdom, gratitude, and humility. The Motherly figures in the exhibition are not approached as purely religious beliefs, but as expressions of the "Great Wisdom " – where people learn to humble their ego sufficiently so that gratitude and humility open up wisdom.

Meanwhile, the " Auxiliary Nature " component opens up reflections on the Venerable Saints, the Buddhas, and the qualities of "Great Compassion and Great Mercy." According to the author, when one reaches a sufficiently high level of understanding, one no longer engages in conflict or attachment, but becomes more tolerant and harmonious with all, because compassion then encompasses wisdom.

These three components do not exist separately, but are linked together as a continuous journey of Courage, Wisdom, and Compassion: using the foundation as a support, wisdom to open up possibilities, and compassion to harmonize all interactions in life.

More than just an exhibition space

The unique aspect of "Unveiling the Secrets - A Promise for Next Season" lies not in the number of works or the exhibition structure, but in its openness and the multi-dimensional interaction between the artists and the viewers.

The public visits the exhibition.

Instead of focusing solely on visual experiences, this exhibition space is envisioned as a "chance encounter"—where each question, each personal reflection, or each emotional response can become a gateway to the boundless depth of each artwork.

Accordingly, visitors to the exhibition can leave questions or personal reflections related to the "Promise for the Next Season" journey. Dr. Trinh Thang will hold sessions and direct dialogues to help viewers "unveil" each layer of meaning, not following any fixed answer, but rather as a process of personal and intuitive discovery.

"There is no single unveiling for everyone. Each person will have a different way of entering," the author shared.

“A Promise for Next Season” is the latest solo exhibition project by Dr. Trinh Thang, featuring nearly 70 works created on cowhide – a rare and difficult-to-control surface in contemporary painting.

The sequel, "Unveiling the Secrets - A Promise for Next Season," continues to expand the journey towards deeper interaction, contemplation, and exploration between the artist, the artwork, and the viewer; where painting gradually transcends its role as expression to become a lived experience, a journey of direct perception, and an open dialogue with one's own being.
