After the fairy tale collection The First Adventure of the Ducks , author Ngo Huong Thao continues to send young readers the picture book The Story of Mother Turtle (Lionbooks and Hanoi Publishing House), borrowing the story of animals to praise the sacred motherly love.
The work brings a simple story but has a long-lasting resonance. There have been many works written about the sacred motherly love and The Turtle Mother Story continues to be such a work. There, there is the boundless love of the mother, the 30-year-old turtle Tyna.
The story opens with a wish of the turtle Tyna: After 30 years of wandering around the equatorial waters of the Pacific Ocean, a strong urge makes Tyna decide to return to the beach where she was born. It is a year-round warm sea in the South of Vietnam.
On the return journey, Tyna’s journey to motherhood begins. Flipping through the colorful pages of the book through the vivid illustrations by artist Ran Art, readers cannot help but be moved by the days when she struggled to find a safe place to lay her eggs. Only then will her children be safe.
Not stopping there, even when she had found a really satisfactory place, but it happened to be on a full moon day, when the full moon illuminated a large area of the sea. It was a poetic scene but the light made it easy for enemies to see the birthing process and steal her children. And so the turtle Tyna decided to wait for more time, until the most suitable and safest time for her children.
In the simple story about the turtle Tyna’s journey to motherhood, author Ngo Huong Thao cleverly incorporated scientific knowledge about turtles’ reproductive habits. The information is just enough to inspire and stimulate children to explore and discover.
