Last weekend, Mr. Tran Van Khoa, Director of Jack Tran Tours , along with his staff and tourists, were busy again carrying out their familiar task: cleaning up waste in the Cam Thanh mangrove forest area (Hoi An Dong ward). This activity has been maintained by the company for many years with the desire to contribute to protecting the landscape and preserving the ecological environment of this heritage site.
The story of Jack Tran Tours is just one example of the exemplary models quietly preserving the environment in Da Nang city. In many communes and wards, movements such as "Green, Clean, and Beautiful Sunday," "Garbage-Free Residential Areas," self-managed roads, and waste sorting at source have been actively embraced by the people; helping to improve urban landscapes, build a civilized lifestyle, and raise the sense of responsibility of each individual towards their living environment.
However, along with the pace of socio -economic development, the increase in population and the expansion of urban space after the administrative reorganization have also placed increasing pressure on Da Nang in waste management.
According to statistics, the entire city generates approximately 2,052 tons of household waste per day. This waste is collected and processed at the Khánh Sơn, Cẩm Hà, Tam Xuân 2, Tam Nghĩa, and Đại Hiệp solid waste treatment complexes.
According to forecasts from the Department of Agriculture and Environment, by 2030, the amount of solid household waste throughout the city could increase to approximately 3,600 tons/day; with the central city area alone accounting for about 1,900 tons/day. Besides household waste, the control of industrial and medical waste also needs to be regularly prioritized to minimize the risk to public health.
Speaking at the launch ceremony of the "All People Join Hands to Protect the Environment, for a Green, Clean, and Beautiful Da Nang City" movement for the period 2026-2030, which was recently held, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee Tran Nam Hung stated that Da Nang is facing many environmental challenges such as the improper disposal of waste, and the inconsistent and unsustainable compliance with environmental laws by some residents and tourists. Protecting the environment requires the decisive, strong, and persistent involvement of the entire political system, each agency and enterprise, and especially the self-awareness of the people.
Besides promoting awareness campaigns and improving environmental hygiene in the community, in the long term, the city focuses on investing in a comprehensive environmental treatment infrastructure such as: upgrading the Khanh Son Waste Treatment Complex; accelerating projects to develop waste-to-energy plants, reducing landfill rates and increasing the capacity for recycling and reuse of waste… Through these efforts, the goal of building Da Nang into a green, clean, modern, and sustainably developed ecological city will be gradually realized.
