I have many options when collaborating with newspapers, but Quang Nam Newspaper remains my preferred choice, although I sometimes worry about my articles getting lost in the feed. The newspaper is quite strict. Just a short paragraph, let alone an entire article, that has been published elsewhere can easily lead to it being rejected. On the other hand, the newspaper has a very dedicated editorial board that helps breathe life into the articles. Despite being a provincial newspaper, it has a large number of contributors, so commissions aren't frequent (except in special cases).
Fortunately, as expected, I still have the opportunity to contribute my writings to major national holidays and significant events. Perhaps it's because the areas I collaborate on are usually unique. Revolutionary wars and military generals both require accurate documentation, and access to the subjects is difficult, so producing an article demands considerable effort.
Quang Nam, a land of unwavering courage and resilience, where heroes are found everywhere, has always been an endless source of inspiration for me. "A family with 14 martyrs," "A family with three heroes," "A family with three generations of heroic Vietnamese mothers"... these stories have offered readers moving discoveries .
Once, a reader from the province called and asked me, "Where did you find such interesting characters?" Well, from my hometown, of course. They're still here, but it wasn't until 30 years after liberation that I met them and brought them to the community...
I am proud to say that I have not written anything inaccurate regarding data, identities, or events that could affect the newspaper's reputation. In the section on generals and heroes of Quang Nam province, I have a significant advantage because I have had the opportunity to meet them and gather abundant information.
On numerous occasions, when I was far away, I asked Ms. Trinh Thi Lam from the Administrative Department to help send newspapers to the people I was writing about, and I always received enthusiastic support. She also confided that the articles about the revolutionary war made them even more proud of their homeland, and that helping her was a way of showing gratitude to the older generations.
Every year, I eagerly await October to attend the contributors' conference organized by the newspaper. Cars pick up the older contributors from Da Nang . We have truly meaningful moments of reunion.
The Quang Nam Newspaper is different from many other places I've attended. It always prioritizes new talent, especially young contributors. From the conference to the luncheon, the atmosphere was sincere and lively; everyone felt like family. This made us love the editorial board and the staff even more, and gave us more motivation to collaborate so we can have another successful year together.
I especially remember the joyful Lunar New Year celebrations when I got to be featured in the spring issue. There was no favoritism towards established figures or positions; the newspaper only used articles that had already been published months in advance and guaranteed their quality. Therefore, everyone could contribute, creating a vibrant and fresh content and writing style, making the spring special edition always eagerly awaited by readers.
Life is full of changes, and we will gradually adapt. But the sweet memories of Quang Nam Newspaper will forever remain in my heart.
