The exam is full of emotions

This is a special exam, organized simultaneously for both candidates taking the 2018 General Education Program (new) and the 2006 General Education Program (old). The simultaneous existence of two generations of students - the "last" group taking the graduation exam under the old program and the "first" group coming out of the new program, shows the specialness of this year's exam.

Candidates registering for the new program will take 4 exams, including 2 compulsory exams in Mathematics and Literature and 2 optional exams in the following subjects: Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Geography, History, Economic and Legal Education, Information Technology, Technology and Foreign Languages. Candidates taking the old program will take the Literature, Mathematics, Foreign Language exams, and 1 of 2 natural sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) or social sciences (History, Geography, Civic Education).

This year's exam recorded many innovations in the structure of the exam questions and subjects, in which the Literature subject does not use materials from textbooks, the Geography subject does not use Atlas for candidates taking the exam according to the new program; new multiple choice answer sheets; changes in the way of calculating scores... causing many confusions for students and parents.

Determined to organize the exam seriously, absolutely safely, and respecting the regulations, Thanh Hoa province organized a Council chaired by the Department of Education and Training (GD&DT) including 85 exam sites with more than 1,800 exam rooms for more than 41,000 candidates registered to take the exam. Mobilized 6,484 personnel to participate in exam supervision (not including the inspection and examination force). Of which, the head of the exam site was 85 people, the deputy head of the exam site was 141 people, the secretary was 141 people...

At the farthest testing site in the province - Muong Lat High School (Muong Lat) during the 2 days of the exam, the conditions for the exam, security and order, traffic safety, environmental sanitation around the testing area, communication system... are all guaranteed. The testing site has 409 candidates registered to take the exam. Of which, 315 candidates are studying in grade 12 of high school, 46 independent candidates and 48 grade 12 candidates of the Center for Continuing Education - Vocational Training of Muong Lat district. The testing site has 18 official testing rooms, 2 backup testing rooms and 2 waiting rooms for candidates. All rooms are fully equipped with conditions to ensure the exam.

“In order to provide maximum support for candidates with difficult circumstances, especially those who live far away from the exam site, the school has arranged free accommodation at the Muong Lat High School Student Village for all candidates in need. The Student Village is a well-invested boarding area, consisting of 30 stilt houses, with a capacity of about 250 boarding students, ensuring all conditions for safe and clean accommodation for the students,” said Le Van Minh, Principal of Quan Son High School - Head of the Muong Lat High School exam site.

2K7 is probably the group of candidates who have "experienced" the most changes so far, from going through a long period of online learning due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic during middle school, to being the first group of candidates to implement Circular 29/2024/TT-BGDDT regulating extra teaching and learning... They are also the first group of candidates to take the exam according to the new General Education Program with many innovations in testing and assessment forms, exam structure, scoring methods...

Taking the exam at Dao Duy Tu High School (Thanh Hoa City), candidate Le Trung Hieu shared: "I have an IELTS certificate, according to the new regulations I am exempted from the Foreign Language exam, so I only have to take 2 compulsory subjects: Mathematics, Literature and 1 optional subject. I chose Chemistry as my forte, and I only have to take 3 subjects, so I don't feel too pressured or worried."

Meanwhile, candidate Nguyen Ngoc Linh, who took the exam at Quang Xuong 1 High School (Quang Xuong), said: “Because I had researched in advance and been informed by teachers about the new points of this year's exam, and had thoroughly reviewed the sample exam questions at school, I was not surprised by the changes in the exam. I did quite well in the two compulsory subjects. I chose English and Economic Education and Law as my elective subjects. However, I found the reading comprehension part of the English exam quite long and difficult, and my vocabulary was not enough to do well in this part. I was also not sure about the right or wrong choice. However, no matter what the result was, I tried to complete the exam to the best of my ability.”

During the two days of the exam, security, order and safety inside and outside the exam area were tightened. The steps of receiving and delivering exam papers, distributing exam papers, collecting and preserving exam papers were carried out in accordance with procedures. Relevant sectors and localities arranged forces and gathered all the best conditions for the exam to take place safely. Exam supervisors and invigilators worked with a high sense of responsibility, and candidates took the exam seriously. In the whole Thanh Hoa province, there were no candidates or exam supervisors who violated the regulations.

To ensure the safety of the exam, at 85 exam sites in the province, the police force was deployed early to coordinate with the exam councils, ensuring absolute safety during the entire exam period. Police units and localities mobilized forces to direct traffic, prevent and promptly resolve unexpected and complicated situations regarding security, order and traffic safety that may occur; creating the most favorable conditions and ensuring the safety of candidates, officials and teachers. In addition, the "Supporting the exam season" activities have become an indispensable feature of each exam, thousands of youth union members were present at all exam sites to support candidates. All of this has created a safe and meaningful exam season.

The exam ended successfully. Besides the candidates who completed their exams well, many candidates tried their best until the last minute to complete the exam according to the regulations, it was also difficult to avoid tears of regret and hope that the results might not be as expected... However, they tried their best and have the right to be proud of what they showed.
