According to observations on May 8th, the construction site for the landslide remediation project at Km262+400 to Km262+530 (suspension bridge area, near the foot of D'Ran pass) was completely deserted. Remediation items such as gabion retaining walls on the positive slope, steel pile retaining walls on the negative slope, and road foundations were left unfinished.
A section of the road, enclosed by corrugated iron sheets by the construction unit to address subsidence, remains unfinished, narrowing the road and hindering traffic flow. Meanwhile, a large amount of soil and rocks has been removed from the hillside on the uphill side in a stepped manner. However, without proper protection or reinforcement, the risk of landslides remains very high, especially now that the area has experienced the first rains of the season.
At the construction site, construction equipment, machinery, and materials are left scattered along the roadside, posing a danger to vehicles, especially at night. Furthermore, the unfinished construction project prevents trucks over 5 tons and vehicles with more than 16 seats from traveling from the foot of D'Ran Pass (D'Ran commune) to the center of Da Lat, forcing them to take a longer and more arduous detour via Mimosa Pass and Prenn Pass.
According to the Lam Dong Provincial Department of Construction, the reason for the delay in completing the landslide remediation project on D'Ran Pass is that the embankment reinforcement work, which is the responsibility of Project Management Board 85 ( Ministry of Construction ), has not yet been completed. Therefore, the reinforcement work on the positive slope also has to be carried out intermittently while waiting for the embankment reinforcement.
Previously, the D'Ran Pass suffered a serious landslide in late October 2025 at kilometer markers 262+400 to 262+530. The incident caused over 60,000 cubic meters of soil and rocks to slide down, threatening a 500-meter section of the road. Following the incident, authorities had to temporarily close off the D'Ran Pass to address the problem.
On November 12, 2025, the People's Committee of Lam Dong province issued an order for the construction of an emergency project to address and mitigate landslides and ensure traffic safety on National Highway 20, section Km262+400 – Km262+530, D'ran Pass, with a budget of 5 billion VND. The project is managed and implemented by the Department of Construction of Lam Dong province, with an estimated construction time of 45 days.
