Making money from farm economics

Việt NamViệt Nam13/11/2024

Taking advantage of their ample land area, many households have boldly implemented farm-based economic models, generating high incomes for their families and contributing to the creation of concentrated agricultural production zones.

Mr. Pham Van Do's shrimp farm in Quang Nghia commune, Mong Cai city, generates an income of 2-3 billion VND per year.

With a water surface area of up to 18 hectares in Hamlet 3, Quang Nghia Commune, Mong Cai City, Mr. Pham Van Do has developed a commercial shrimp farming model. In recent years, as the trend of two-stage shrimp farming in net houses has become popular, he has also invested in building 2,000 m² of greenhouses to increase productivity. With three harvests per year, Mr. Do harvests about 60 tons of shrimp, bringing in an income of 2-3 billion VND. The efficient operation of Mr. Do's family farm shrimp farming model is also creating jobs for nearly a dozen local laborers with an average income of about 8 million VND/month. Mr. Do said: "In the future, my family will continue to gradually convert the area of outdoor ponds to greenhouse farming, increasing production to boost income."

Also starting from a farm-based economy, the family of Mr. Be Van Ly, in Hong Phong village, Phong Du commune, Tien Yen district, currently owns more than 1 hectare of hilly land dedicated to raising Tien Yen chickens. Besides combining free-range farming with natural grazing, he also focuses on supplementing the feed with herbal remedies. As a result, his chickens are always preferred by traders and have a stable market. Each year, his family supplies approximately 10,000 commercial chickens to the market, generating revenue of 350-500 million VND. Mr. Ly said: "My family is also planning to increase the scale of farming by another 3,000-4,000 chickens per year, striving to increase income to invest in building a house."

The chicken farm of Mr. Be Van Ly in Phong Du commune, Tien Yen district, prioritizes high-quality feed to ensure sustainable output.

The effectiveness of farm economics is also bringing in a profit of about 1 billion VND per year for the family of Mr. Nguyen Van Bich, in Xuan Quang area, Yen Tho ward, Dong Trieu city. In 2016, boldly embarking on a comprehensive farm model with an area of 5 hectares, Mr. Bich's family now has 7 concentrated pig pens with 6,000 pigs annually, along with 3 ponds for raising eels and various fruit trees and vegetables. Each year, after deducting expenses, his family's farm generates a profit of about 1 billion VND and provides regular employment for 10 local workers. Mr. Bich shared: "To ensure the stable and sustainable development of the farm model, in addition to choosing suitable livestock and ensuring a reliable feed source, the most important thing is to do a good job of hygiene and disease prevention." In addition, farm owners need to update their scientific knowledge and learn from farming and livestock breeding experiences through mass media and other practical models to apply to their production process.

In recent years, the farm economy in the province has developed very dynamically with many sectors such as: crop cultivation, livestock farming, forestry, fisheries, and integrated services. Most farms effectively utilize and exploit the agricultural, forestry, and fisheries land allocated annually by the government, creating many valuable products and providing employment for many local workers, especially seasonal workers.

To encourage the formation and development of more farms, departments, agencies, and localities also need to actively participate in reviewing unused agricultural and forestry land areas that can be cultivated; understand the sentiments of the community regarding the need to use agricultural land for production, especially for organizations and individuals who want to develop farm-based economic activities in a concentrated and sustainable manner.

Along with that, attention should be paid to building mechanisms and policies such as: exemption and reduction of agricultural land use tax; access to credit; support for purchasing livestock and seedlings; application of science and technology... to facilitate and promote the formation and development of farm economies among the people.
