In addition to ensuring a happy Lunar New Year for the city's residents with the spirit of "leaving no one behind," for many years, Ho Chi Minh City has also extended its social welfare policies to disadvantaged localities, especially border areas. Through budgetary resources and social mobilization, Tet gifts and public works projects have been implemented promptly, contributing to improving living standards, ensuring social welfare, and bringing a warm spring to people in difficult areas.
Warmth in the border region
In Dong Thap province, this spirit of solidarity continues to spread as recently, leaders from Ho Chi Minh City visited, carried out social welfare activities, and presented Tet gifts to people in the border region.
In Thuong Lac ward, the "Borderland Solidarity" program, jointly implemented by the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, distributed numerous Tet gifts to policy beneficiary families, people with meritorious services to the revolution, children of "border guard post foster children," and students participating in the "Helping Children Go to School" program. Although the gifts were not of great monetary value, they demonstrated the profound concern and sharing of the Party Committee, government, and people of Ho Chi Minh City towards the people living on the front lines of the Fatherland.

Holding the gift in his hands, Mr. Tran Huu Ly (a revolutionary veteran residing in Thuong Lac ward) emotionally stated that this year's Tet holiday felt warmer thanks to the attention he received from Ho Chi Minh City. For him, this was not just a material gift, but also an expression of gratitude and encouragement, giving those who participated in the resistance war more confidence in their lives today.
Sharing similar sentiments, Ms. Do Thi Mai (a former liaison officer) expressed her joy at receiving Tet gifts from the delegation: "We are very happy to receive the city's attention. This makes us feel a strong sense of connection and affection, especially during the Tet holiday."
According to Mr. Bui Thanh Tien, Chairman of the People's Committee of Thuong Lac Ward, the attention of Ho Chi Minh City leaders is a great source of encouragement for the local government and people. The financial support along with hundreds of Tet gifts has helped many households, especially policy beneficiary families and disadvantaged households, to have a more complete and warm Tet celebration.
In Tan Hong commune, Dong Thap province, many social welfare projects and practical gifts as part of the 2026 social welfare program themed "Borderland Solidarity" of the Party Committee of Ho Chi Minh City's Party agencies were also presented to the local government and people.
National flag-lined roads, solar-powered lighting systems, clean water projects for schools, and bicycles for underprivileged students have contributed to improving living conditions, enhancing quality of life, and bringing simple joys to people in border regions during the days leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year).
Do Nguyen Ngoc Tran, a 6th-grade student at Nguyen Du Secondary School (Tan Hong commune), couldn't hide her joy upon receiving her new bicycle. "From now on, I can go to school by myself, and my parents will have less trouble," she confided.
Connecting with love
Mr. Phan Hong An, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, said that this year's Tet holiday, the work of caring for the city's people was implemented with funding from the state budget and socialized sources through the Fatherland Front system and its member organizations. The total funding for this occasion amounted to more than 5,900 billion VND.
Activities to support people during Tet (Lunar New Year) are carried out in a focused and targeted manner, concentrating on those in difficult circumstances, laborers, students, and young workers who do not have the means to return home for the holidays. This contributes to ensuring that all citizens can celebrate Tet in a warm and meaningful atmosphere.
Mr. Phan Hong An affirmed that social welfare work has always been a top priority for the city, guided by the spirit of "Ho Chi Minh City for the whole country, together with the whole country." Besides caring for the city's residents, Ho Chi Minh City continues to share and support other localities so that disadvantaged people can celebrate the traditional Lunar New Year more fully.
With that in mind, this Tet holiday, Ho Chi Minh City donated 1.5 billion VND to Dong Thap province to care for people in difficult circumstances and families affected by floods. "These gifts may not be large in material value, but they represent a connection of love, contributing to a warm and meaningful Tet holiday for the people," Mr. Phan Hong An emphasized.
According to Ms. Le Thi Hong Nga, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Head of the Party Committee's Inspection Committee of Ho Chi Minh City's Party agencies, the projects and gifts in the "Borderland Solidarity" program, while not substantial in material value, represent the heartfelt sentiments of the Party Committee, officials, Party members, and people of Ho Chi Minh City towards the people in the border region. Ms. Le Thi Hong Nga hopes that these social welfare projects and meaningful gifts will contribute to bringing a warm spring, faith, and hope to the people there.
Within the framework of the "Borderland Solidarity" program, the Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, in coordination with the Party Committee of the Party agencies of Ho Chi Minh City and other partner units, donated the "National Flag and Solar-Powered Streetlights" project in Thong Nhat 2 hamlet, Tan Hong commune, Dong Thap province, contributing to spreading the spirit of patriotism and solidarity in the front lines of the Fatherland.
Boosting confidence
Ms. Dao Ngoc Bich, Chairwoman of the Tan Hong Commune People's Committee, acknowledged that for a border commune still facing many difficulties, the timely attention, support, and companionship of the Party Committee of Ho Chi Minh City's Party agencies are of great practical significance. These acts of kindness not only contribute to improving the material and spiritual lives of the people but also instill confidence in the locality to strive for socio -economic development and maintain national defense and security in the border region.
According to Ms. Bich, this is a vivid example of the spirit of "Ho Chi Minh City for the whole country, and the whole country for Ho Chi Minh City".
