The contest, launched nationwide from May 10th to July 10th, 2025, by the Youth Pioneer and Children's Newspaper in collaboration with the Campaign For Tobacco-Free Kids (CTFK) organization in Vietnam, is open to children aged 4-15. After two months, nearly 700 paintings and over 100 video clips from children across the country have been submitted.

At the awards ceremony on July 22nd in Hanoi , the outstanding works honored were not only a recognition of artistic merit, but also a meaningful message about every child's right to live safely and be equipped with essential skills.

In the drawing category, the Special Prize was awarded to Nguyen Tran Minh Tue, a 6th-grade student from Nguyen Binh Khiem Secondary School (Ngu Hanh Son Ward).

Tuệ's painting vividly depicts children learning to swim under the guidance of adults, highlighted by the slogan "Learn to swim to protect yourself."

With its bright colors, well-balanced composition, and practical content, the artwork fully conveys the message about the importance of learning to swim and self-protection. Through the painting, I also want to encourage my friends to practice safe water skills.

Equally impressive, in the video clip category, the Special Prize was awarded to two sisters, Pham Ngo Tram Anh (7th grade student, Nguyen Khuyen Secondary School) and Pham Nam Anh (4th grade, Nguyen Hien Primary School), both residing in Tam Anh commune, Da Nang city.

The video created by the two children conveys a powerful message: children should not play near ponds and lakes, they should wear life jackets when participating in water activities, and most importantly, they must be supervised by an adult to ensure their safety.

Tram Anh shared: “We want the children to understand that learning to swim from an early age is very important, that they must be accompanied by an adult when swimming, that they should not go into the water on their own, and that they should always remember to wear a life jacket. They should participate in skills classes organized by the school or their families, and remember the emergency number 112 so they know how to handle dangerous situations.”

Despite being just a short clip, Tram Anh and Nam Anh's work impressed viewers with its concise, easy-to-understand, visual content, which is suitable for children's psychology. Many parents and teachers consider this a smart, easy-to-understand approach that creates a positive effect in teaching life skills.

Ms. Ngo Kim Thanh, mother of Tram Anh and Nam Anh, expressed her joy and pride that her children received high awards, and hoped that the winning works would continue to spread more widely.

Each painting and video clip is not only a creative product but also a reminder of the importance of equipping children with accident prevention skills. This contributes to raising community awareness and affirms that every child has the right to live safely, be protected, and develop in a healthy and friendly environment.

According to Mr. Tran Van Hong, Principal of Nguyen Binh Khiem Secondary School, the competition has become an effective model for disseminating information about drowning prevention. This approach should be replicated in schools and localities, with close coordination between the education and health sectors and youth organizations to ensure children's safety.
