Among the developing sports in Nui Thanh commune, recreational volleyball is chosen by the elderly because of its safety, ease of learning, and suitability to their physical condition. Unlike high-intensity sports, recreational volleyball helps improve flexibility and agility while reducing the risk of injury. Regularly every afternoon, the sports field in Nui Thanh commune is where the elderly meet, socialize, and practice recreational volleyball.
“Soft volleyball has simple rules, a light ball, and doesn't cause hand pain, making it suitable for the elderly. Regular exercise helps keep the body flexible, reduces bone and joint diseases, and creates a cheerful and optimistic mood. Therefore, most elderly people really love this sport,” shared Ms. Doan Thi Hoa (a senior citizen member of Nui Thanh commune).
According to Ms. Vo Thi Kim Hoa, Chairwoman of the Elderly Association of Nui Thanh commune, the locality currently maintains 20 groups, clubs, and organizations for health exercises, folk dance, and sports with more than 250 regular participants. The exercise movement has become a beautiful aspect of the lives of the elderly, contributing to improved health, building an optimistic spirit, and effectively responding to the campaign "All people practice physical training following the example of the great President Ho Chi Minh".
In Cam Le ward, the Khue Trung Health and Wellness Club is a familiar meeting place for many members who practice from 8 PM to 9 PM daily. The exercises are based on traditional health and wellness methods, combining rhythmic movements to help elderly people improve their health.
Mr. Nguyen Van Tho, Chairman of the Elderly Association of Cam Le Ward, shared that the association maintains three health and wellness clubs in the Khue Trung, Hoa Tho Dong, and Hoa Tho Tay areas with over 90 members. Besides sports activities, the clubs also organize visits to historical sites, visit sick members, support those in difficult circumstances, and participate in local social welfare work.
According to Thai Dinh Hoang, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang City Senior Citizens Association, there are currently 1,493 clubs, teams, and groups engaged in physical exercise and health-promoting activities in Da Nang, attracting over 44,240 members. This is considered a "golden key" to helping senior citizens live happily, healthily, and productively, reducing the burden of illness. In the future, the association will continue to encourage the establishment of more health-promoting, arts, folk dance, and sports clubs at the grassroots level; and will coordinate the organization of many tournaments and competitions to create attractive recreational activities and attract a large number of members.
