Pioneer Party Member

Throughout her 47 years as a Party member, Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhung made many important contributions to Ha Dinh ward since its establishment (in 1997). Having held many important positions within the Party Committee and served as the Chairwoman of the Ward People's Council, even after retiring at the end of 2012, she continued to contribute to the community as the Chairwoman of the Association for the Promotion of Learning and the Deputy Director of the Ward Community Learning Center.

Inspired by President Ho Chi Minh 's teaching: "Learning is endless. The more you learn, the more you know, the better," Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhung has dedicated more than a decade of tireless service to promoting education and talent development in Ha Dinh ward. At an age when many people have chosen a peaceful life, she remains dedicated to programs and plans, determined to promote the learning movement within the community.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhung.

With dedication and a sense of responsibility, Ms. Nhung not only effectively advised the Party Committee and the government on building learning models but also directly spread the movement to promote learning to every citizen, mobilizing people to actively participate and awakening the learning awareness in the community. As a result, the Ha Dinh Ward Association for the Promotion of Learning has grown stronger, with the number of members steadily increasing over the years, from 3,268 members in 2023 to 3,542 members in 2024, including 495 core members.

The robust development of learning models is not only reflected in dry statistics but is also clearly felt through the transformation of entire communities. Many models have been widely implemented, such as: "Learning Family," "Learning Clan," "Learning Community," "Learning Unit," "Learning Citizen," etc. A "new breeze" of knowledge has blown into every family and every way of life, as learning is no longer just for children but has become a self-driven, constant need for everyone.

Learning is a journey without age.

Ms. Nhung believes that promoting education and talent is not just about raising funds, providing financial support, helping disadvantaged students, or commending and rewarding young talents, but also about creating opportunities for everyone, including adults, to learn and engage in lifelong learning. "To achieve this, we need to teach them practical skills that are highly applicable in daily life; mere general pronouncements are ineffective," she said.

It was from that perspective that the idea of opening free vocational training classes for the people was formed. In 2014, recognizing that voile and rhinestone flowers were trending in the market at that time and had good sales, she independently researched how to make them online, bought materials herself, and practiced until she mastered the craft. Afterward, she directly taught the classes, compiled detailed instructional materials with images, making it easy for students to learn and follow along. The first voile flower making class had over 30 participants, nearly half of whom were members of the disability association.

Ms. Nhung directly teaches in handicraft classes, compiles illustrative materials, and helps students access knowledge easily and effectively.

Since then, Ms. Nhung and the Ward's Education Promotion Association have organized many other handicraft training classes such as: knitting and crocheting woolen scarves and hats, knitting items from imitation rattan, making handbags, bracelets, keychains from beads, creating flower baskets, bonsai trees from stones... The classes are held regularly, attracting hundreds of students each year.

These classes have provided opportunities for people with disabilities in the area to find employment, while also fostering community cohesion and promoting a learning movement. A clear example is that whenever the ward organizes charitable activities, the students enthusiastically contribute by knitting scarves, hats, shoes, etc., to donate to people and children in difficult circumstances in mountainous provinces such as Tuyen Quang, Ha Giang , and Cao Bang.

Currently, in response to the initiative to develop a "green education promotion" program, Ms. Nhung has organized classes on weaving items from synthetic rattan, skillfully combining vocational training with promoting a green lifestyle and encouraging people to reduce the use of plastic bags and replace them with reusable, environmentally friendly products. This is a practical form of education promotion that contributes to building a civilized and sustainable community.

The free class model originating from Ha Dinh ward is being supported for replication throughout Thanh Xuan district.

Not only confined to Ha Dinh ward, Ms. Nhung has also supported the expansion of the model to 7 out of 11 wards in Thanh Xuan district. The prestige and effectiveness of these free training courses have contributed to helping people acquire more vocational skills while actively promoting lifelong learning among the people, contributing to raising the intellectual level at the grassroots level.

Furthermore, according to Ms. Nhung, people's learning needs are very diverse, not limited to vocational training but also including foreign languages, computer skills, life skills, legal knowledge, healthcare, etc. She hopes that the community learning center system will receive increasing investment to develop a team of professional instructors, creating opportunities for adults to receive systematic education, meeting the demands of the new era.

For her tireless contributions, Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhung has been awarded numerous certificates of merit and commendations from the Central Vietnam Association for the Promotion of Learning, the Hanoi City Association for the Promotion of Learning, and various levels of government. But above all, the most valuable reward for her is the spread of the learning movement to every family and every citizen.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhung's work not only contributes to building a strong learning society but also inspires many others to join hands for a more sustainable and developed community education system.
