Spreading kindness from generous hearts.

A journey of spreading love

In Son Duong district, when mentioning charitable activities, one cannot fail to mention the Tan Hoa Red Cross Volunteer Team in Phuc Ung commune. Every Tet holiday, or during natural disasters and floods, in areas where people are still lacking resources, the team members enthusiastically organize the making of banh chung (traditional Vietnamese rice cakes) and prepare warm Tet gifts and meaningful presents for the poor and those in difficult circumstances. Mr. Bong, the team leader, shared: “Seeing the hardships of others in this world, I couldn't hold back my tears, so I wanted to do something meaningful to help them. Over time, seeing my practical work, many people have joined in.”

Mr. Tran Cong Thanh and members of the Tan Ha Ward Red Cross Volunteer Team received and transported donated supplies and necessities for poor households.

Mr. Trinh Dinh Bong, the team leader of the volunteer group, shared with us about this meaningful journey. Starting in 2008 with only 15 members, the team now has over 50 volunteers and receives regular support from 20 sponsors and benefactors. Over the past 17 years, tens of thousands of sticky rice cakes and thousands of gift packages have been distributed, bringing complete and warm Tet (Lunar New Year) celebrations to countless disadvantaged families and the poor. These are not just material gifts, but also expressions of affection, sharing, and faith in life.

In Ham Yen district, Ms. Nguyen Thi Tham, Head of the "Loving Heart" Volunteer Club in Binh Xa commune, is one of the exemplary figures in the volunteer movement. What many people admire about Ms. Tham is not only her dedication, but also the extraordinary resilience of a woman who suffered a serious electric shock accident, resulting in the amputation of one arm.

Although she seemed to be in need of help, Ms. Tham made an extraordinary effort to rise above her circumstances and call for assistance for those in even more difficult situations: the poor, victims of traffic accidents, and those with particularly difficult circumstances. Sharing her motivation, Ms. Tham confided: "When doing good deeds, you must put your heart first. You must put yourself in the shoes of those who need help. Every time we help someone overcome difficulties, I and other philanthropists feel truly happy." Recently, Ms. Tham was honored by the Provincial Party Committee as an exemplary individual in studying and following the thoughts, ethics, and style of Ho Chi Minh - a well-deserved recognition for her tireless contributions.

"Love others as you love yourself."

In Tuyen Quang city, Mr. Tran Cong Thanh, Deputy Secretary of the Party Cell of Group 13, Vice President of the Red Cross Society, and Team Leader of the Red Cross Volunteer Team of Tan Ha ward, is a shining example of compassion and tireless effort for the community. In his role, Mr. Thanh always takes the initiative in disseminating information and mobilizing organizations, individuals, philanthropists, and Red Cross officials and members to actively participate in the Society's activities, especially social, charitable, and humanitarian work.

Through association meetings and the integration of local movements and campaigns, Mr. Thanh and the collective have organized many practical and effective activities such as the "Tet for the Poor and Victims of Agent Orange" program and the "Each organization and each individual is linked to a humanitarian cause" campaign.

The Association also organizes many other movements that attract a large number of cadres, Party members, civil servants, and people from all walks of life to participate, such as voluntary blood donation campaigns; coordinating with the Association for the Promotion of Learning to collect books, school supplies, bicycles, clothes, and scholarships to help poor but studious students; building charity houses and solidarity houses for disadvantaged people, poor households, and victims of fires and accidents…

Besides his work in propaganda and mobilization, Mr. Thanh also directly participates in humanitarian relief. He himself has volunteered to donate blood eight times and actively encourages members, volunteers, and everyone else to participate in blood donation to save lives. From 2016 to 2020, Mr. Tran Cong Thanh participated in mobilizing agencies, units, organizations, localities, members, volunteers, the people, philanthropists, and benefactors to donate and support the construction and repair of 23 houses. In the past five years, the total value of social relief work has reached over 4 billion VND.

Mr. Thanh shared: “As someone working in humanitarian aid, I must always keep in mind that learning from Uncle Ho means first and foremost learning his compassionate heart, loving others as oneself. Learning from him means living a kind and affectionate life towards everyone. As someone involved in humanitarian work, I and my family and relatives must always be exemplary, leading the way in all humanitarian activities, and always voluntarily contributing our family's resources and manpower to social, humanitarian, and charitable work. From there, good deeds will spread, encouraging everyone to do good...”

Shining examples like the Tan Hoa Red Cross volunteer team, Ms. Nguyen Thi Tham, and Mr. Tran Cong Thanh, through their concrete and practical actions, have contributed to enhancing the nation's fine tradition of "mutual support and compassion," bringing warmth and hope to those in need. These acts of kindness have helped spread the message of "Learning and following the thoughts, ethics, and style of Ho Chi Minh" in daily life, contributing to building a more prosperous and developed society.
